Definitive Ranking Of Tottenham’s Most Important Current Players [opinion]

By Joe Fish -

16. Japhet Tanganga – The kid has done good in his first season, real good. He has impressed with his well-rounded defending and his versatility has been an asset to Jose Mourinho. His role will only get bigger.

15. Steven Bergwijn – Has started every game, when fit, since arriving from PSV and contributed a couple of goals. Looks to be a good signing but too early to say whether he improves a fully-fit team.

14. Ben Davies – Six years into his Spurs career, without Danny Rose as competition for the first time and in a system ideally suited to his strengths the Welshman still doesn’t quite feel like first choice.

13. Harry Winks – I can’t figure out whether Winks is good or not so he’s slap bang in the middle of this ranking. A player with a lot of likeable qualities, but how much does he really affect a game?

12. Tanguy Ndombele – Hasn’t done much on the pitch yet, but is this high because he does offer us something important – hope. Plus most of the lads above him in this ranking are decidedly average.

11. Davinson Sanchez – Hasn’t progressed into the new leader of the defence that we thought he’d become after his stellar debut season. I still fancy him to come good in a centre-back pair of the future.

10. Jan Vertonghen – Who the centre-back either side of Toby Alderweireld is at this point very interchangable. But if we had a cup final tomorrow I’d plump for Vertonghen’s experience and calmless over Sanchez.

9. Lucas Moura – Comes in for unfair stick from some Spurs fans in my opinion. Always fit, always tries and is our main deputy for Harry Kane, rightly or wrongly. Mourinho would have been lost without him recently.

Nothing shows how much we have regressed than Sissoko being sorely missed. The whole team seems to have dropped to his level.
This is on Levy’s head, the man who wouldn’t give Poch what he and everyone else knew was required to kick on,yet is now asking him to take a hit on his salary.
This of course while the players argue the toss over doing so to help Levy out.Let’s be clear about this,it isn’t about Spurs football club losing money whilst the sport is suspended,it’s about Lewis and Levy looking to preserve their obscene wages and bonuses.
Incidentally I think Lo Celso has proved in a short time to be more important than Dele for the simple reason he can influence games where Alli seems incapable now.
Also I think Toby is sadly no longer the force he was a couple of seasons ago.He has slowed like Jan and errors are creeping into his game since signing the new contract. This could be because he is having to cover more for the incompetence that surrounds him these days.I will reserve proper judgement.

Aurier not even in my 25, if I want a right winger I will buy one. Walking back into position watching your team mates scrambling to cover for you, disgusting.
