Sunderland are set to complete a season-long loan deal for Tottenham defender Kevin Danso, with the agreement including an option for the Black Cats to make the move permanent. The 27-year-old is heading to the Stadium of Light after joining Spurs in January 2025.
According to BBC Sport, Tottenham had previously rejected an initial loan proposal from Sunderland before talks reopened and the clubs agreed a deal. The earlier approach was covered in our report on Sunderland’s original proposal.
Tottenham’s imminent signing of Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo has unlocked Danso’s move, according to BBC Sport. Spurs had been unwilling to allow the Austria international to leave without first finding a replacement.
A change in Tottenham’s defensive options
Danso’s proposed departure follows Tottenham’s move for Adarabioyo, with Sunderland now set to take the defender on loan for the season. The deal gives Sunderland an option to make the transfer permanent.
No further details of the permanent option have been reported. Danso joined Tottenham on loan from Lens in January 2025, and the move was made permanent later that year for £20.9m.
