Fixing the backline is a priority of Tottenham Hotspur this summer as the squad led by José Mourinho conceded 45 goals last season in Premier League fixtures.
The London-based club has seen the departures of Juan Foyth and Toby Alderweireld; meanwhile, Serge Aurier, Eric Dier, and Davinson Sanchez are names that could be following their teammates in exiting the club.
Football FanCast spoke to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge where he touched on the new defensive faces he’s expecting to arrive at the English club. Furthermore, Bridge added that Tottenham wants to bring in at least three defenders before the summer window closes.
“I was talking to someone at the club about the mantra, the ideal was at least one [centre-back], but hopefully two and a right-back,” Bridge said.
“So, it was interesting when Tomiyasu came out. I enquired about whether he’s included in the centre-backs, and they said no, he was more of a right-back, which is interesting.”
Tottenham has added a goalkeeper in Pierluigi Gollini but continues to try to land their marquee defender. The Premier League club has targeted Atalanta BC defender Cristian Romero but has yet to secure a deal for the Argentine.
August is coming, and Tottenham needs to revamp its efforts to land a defender.
It’s the same old story. Everyone else seems to be sble to conclude their business without any undue fuss. The Romero saga will plsy out all summer then all we will hear the usual crap about we came so close to signing him. Never mind we might snap up another deadline day bargain like Moussa Sissoko. We are a joke of a club.
Once again the manager is given little time to work with the new recruits.
Yes, that is EXACTLY what is needed, TWO new top quality CB’s, plus a RB. Sell Sanchez, Aurier and Dier (in that order), as Dier can at least cover two positions.
Unfortunately just identifying what is needed doesn’t mean with any certainty that it is going to happen, not with Levy at the helm and the way this club is run.
