“Season Over” – Lots Of Spurs Fans Have Given Up After Another Mediocre Draw

By Joe Fish -

We got the starting lineup we wanted, but not the result we wanted.

A day which started with the hope of seeing both Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso on the team-sheet, ended in the disappointment of a 1-1 draw against Sheffield United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where George Baldock’s 78th-minute equaliser cancelled out Son Heung-min’s strike.

On the balance of play, the newly-promoted Blades probably warranted all three points and may have had them had it not been for the tightest of VAR calls which chalked off David McGoldrick’s tap-in.

This had the feeling of a must-win game. We entered it 10 points off the top-four pace, and that gap could yet be 12 if Leicester City and Manchester City are both victors this weekend.

The result saw a few more of Mauricio Pochettino’s former admirers jump ship and even the Poch loyalists acknowledge this season is basically a write off as far as the Premier League is concerned.

Here is a sample of the post-match reaction:

Poch is a great coach clearly he gave us identity.. But his tactics and manager decisions have always been shaky.. Much like pep and poch both said about marco biesla at leeds. Hes apparently best coach in the world. Obviously his managerial skills come into question because he has no winning resume.. Poch is like biesla, great coach, not so great manager.. Like you say he has been handicapped by our club so his ego is still intact, for now…. Davies has always been hopeless going forward, and mediocre all round really. Rose is better.. And yeah we need toby or jan at the back, preferably both. We are not the same without them. Worrying times if they are both moving on… Poch is on loads of money so it will take a big club to come in for him and pay levy off, manure or juve or madrid, or levy will have to sack him. Cant see that happening really unless we get relegated or close… I keep thinking back to that west ham squad 2003 who went down. They had some tidy players.

More rotation, poor substitutions. Our man Poch has reached the end of the road. The players aren’t playing for him, the club or themselves. We could easily finish this season in 12th or lower at this rate. The belief has gone….

Im at a really sad an scary place where i would rather see the other team beat us than us nicking a draw if it forces poch out quicker. He done a great job with what he had that cant be denied but whatever happening now he clearly has no idea how to deal with it.We need to act now we are dangerously close to a relegation battle. This is s truly painful time

I agree he would be great for City,I don’t think Pep has ever spoken about him.Maybe that’s his way and he will surprise everyone.

With Leicester beating Ars*nal, that’s pretty much put paid to any lingering hope there might have been of achieving a top four finish this season. Even now, we’re too far behind to stand a chance. With the way we’re playing at the moment, even a “new manager bounce” isn’t going to be enough to overhaul an 11 point gap.

If we fail to win against West Ham and Bournemouth then we’re quite literally going to have one foot in a relegation fight then so does Levy act ?

It’ll surely be cheaper to sack Poch than spend the kind of money needed to turn this situation around, and relegation just isn’t fathomable for the kind of financial exposure we’ve got as well, so I don’t honestly think this situation will be allowed to continue that much longer.

I just don’t know where it’s all gone wrong though, but then in a way, the game today probably showed us – Sheffield United kept it simple, kept the same formation and should have won.

We spent the whole game chopping and changing things and achieved sweet fanny adams.

You’d think we’d look at putting everything we had into the FA Cup to try and turn this shitshow around and have something – anything – to show for this season but then we know how Poch feels about that …

I think Pep would go for him, he is a great creator and scorer. Other than his pace Kane would improve city.

If Leicester could sack their Manager 16 Months after doing the impossible and winning the Premier League , then the only thing stopping 666 sacking the Great Pretender is the big pay off . Before any Genius asks who could do as well as Botch here is my answer. I could not give a Flying ****

Sancho got subbed off a little while ago.I really don’t see what all the fuss is about him.Apart from a reasonable first half against us in the fist match he was anonymous against us in the CL last season, and he’s flattered to deceive for England.A couple of reasonable showings and you’re automatically an international these days particularly if you’re young.

I’m not sure that would include City.I just feel Pep doesn’t see him as his type of player and I’m not sure Jesus is the natural successor to Aguero.

Lol… Even if they did could boil down to goal difference. To be fair we could easily lose to olympiacos how we are playing. Let’s not forget if RSB fail to beat olympiacos they can’t catch us anyway.

I think they will get Poch before end of season and Kane in summer. I think of Kane clearly wants to go we will see bidding war.

Will Gazza put forward a theory about Bayern putting out a reserve side against RSB to drop us into the ropey league.

We will qualify in 2nd with a win against olympiacos so I am not sure the result with them matters. As long as RSB don’t beat them.

Loan I think will only stick it we are top 4… Even then I see Toby, Jan, CE, Rose and worst of all… Kane going in summer regardless as it’s easy to see short of eye watering transfers we are at least 5yrs from winning a top trophy.

Just watching Bayern and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them get another seven against us at their place the way they are playing.

At least they are playing. They are a striker away from turning it around… All we have at the moment is a striker.

Well we finally got some consistency in team selection but that came at the price of keeping Dier in central defense where he was abysmal. He regularly lacked positional awareness and his passing was plain awful. Either Jan or Toby needs to partner Sánchez at least until another proven center back can be brought on board. To make matters worse Davies was hopeless going forwards and Aurier fared little better while also being caught napping multiple times. With no worthwhile service coming from defense the midfield did its regular disappearing trick giving Poch the opportunity to pull Ndombele in an attempt to prove he has been right to prefer Winks all along. We are now seeing the results of two serious issues at Tottenham, firstly the lack of investment (leaving 3 out of 4 of today’s defenders who would struggle to start in any other Premiership team) and secondly a manager whose ego has been battered (leaving him unable to make objective tactical decisions). Of course Poch is the inevitable loser here so he should go now while he can maintain his self respect and the goodwill of most of the fan base. The longer he prolongs the agony the more he will seem like the problem rather than the victim. On a bright note Lo Celso looked good once again as the only Spurs player able to pass the ball accurately on a consistent basis.

Poch won’t quit until United sack Ole… Considering they higher than us now it would be a hard sell to the fan base… Is Poch doing a CE by dropping his own value TOO much?

Let’s be honest… Is a 14 point gap with 26 games left too much? So possible 78 points for grabs… Problem is we don’t look like winning ever and would need so many teams to start dropping points.

Absolutely Gazza.I suppose it will come down to who blinks first,Poch or Levy.Poch has been paid well to tow the party line, but no manager walks these days because of the money involved.

Honestly try to stop caring but I can’t…I will stop watching though. I enjoyed the first half far more than the 2nd because I didn’t start watching until half time. For as far as “Poch has brought us” we have dropped further. In the past when we were mid table it was with poor players, this lot had have proved they are not rubbish over the years so simply don’t care. The position of Leicester, Bournemouth, sheff United, Brighton and even Chelsea show this season was a weak league and we are arguably the worst team in it. There maybe some below is but none playing worse with less passion and having as much luck.

Here we go….Poch doesn’t seem to be able to get us out of this mess, so unfortunately he has to go as he will need two years which he doesn’t have..Levy will get off scot-free as usual….and the merry-go-round starts agains..
