Picture: See Just How Ridiculously Close Tottenham’s VAR Touch Was

By Joe Fish -

Another week; another VAR controversy at a Tottenham Hotspur game.

This time, the technology has ruled in our favour, and it was the finest of fine margins which chalked off what would have been a Sheffield United equaliser.

David McGoldrick was onside when he tapped home Enda Stevens’ cross at the back post, but VAR took the replay back a couple of phases to find the below offside against Fantasy Football favourite John Lundstram.

Lundstram’s toe is the blue line; Eric Dier’s knee is the red line. Yes, we have benefitted from VAR here, but is this really what it was brought in for?

It took 3 minutes and 37 seconds from the moment that McGoldrick put the ball in the net, for what would have been his first Premier League goal, for the officials in Stockley Park to overrule the original on-field decision.

That is not the timescale that fans were promised. This needs sorting.

Our luck would not last as George Baldock later fluked a cross straight into the net to cancel out Son Heung-min’s opener in a disappointing 1-1 draw.
