Jose Mourinho now joint favourite to be next manager to leave

By Bruce Grove -

There was always going to be a reaction to Tottenham losing against Chelsea last night and as expected, it has been swift and brutal.

Naturally, the so-called fans on Youtube have done their ranting, nominally because they are angry but it does not do their clicks any harm when they get all hysterical.

Then you have the journalists, for example, Phil McNulty on the BBC has wasted no time at all in sticking up an article full of cheap jibes.

There is your normal fan, ones that do not do anger for clicks or views but genuinely want what is best for the club and judging by a lot of comments on here, they are not a happy bunch either.

And finally, we have the bookies.

They have moved their markets very fast and just like that they now have Mourinho joint favourite with Steve Bruce at 3.50 to be the next manager to depart. Though it must be pointed out that those are the lowest available odds for the Special One and the highest odds for Brucey.

I suspect that Mourinho’s odds will continue to fall until he registers a win, I dread to think what price he will be if we lose to West Brom next.

Mourinho is definitely up against it now and the pressure will begin to tell. The question is, how long will Daniel Levy remain patient with the Portuguese?

So you would expect your manager to succeed, no matter how crappy your other staff were?

Things will never really improve to the point where we are challenging for the title et cetera until Levy has left the building.

Yes, and If I pay someone well to do a job at work that they are experienced and qualified to carry out, i’m expecting them to fulfill said task. Especially if they have told me that they can be relied upon, which was the reason they got the gig in the first place.

Levy is is a toad but Jose is no fool, he knew the situation. I’m surprised he even took it myself…

Agree common denominator is ENIC and chronic underinvestment in quality players. Ten managers now they all can’t be at fault. Covid makes it unlikely that the required investment will be forthcoming in the summer.

I heard we had an excellent summer window, Jose was able to use lime and make lemonaide with Levy and off we go to conquer the league. Now, it is all Levy’s fault? Levy not the ones selecting the match day team. Look, I will back any manager right now as a fan, but how long can I stomach that gad awful football. Yes, it is so convient for you all to return to the boogeyman, Levy. I want to see Winks in that midfield and until we get someone that can hold the ball a bit so we can setup, we will get Sissoko and PEH playing heroes of defending the entire back line. Do you all realized how out of shape we are. Sissoko looks like he was playing right back, right wingback, leftback and chasing ghost in the midfield. Go look at the match tape. Winks in the middle, not everyone brownies and milk, but he keep the team organized and can take the ball from Dier and Davies before they give it away

I have Harry and my experience is that managers are expected to return a profit ie be successful and answer to their shareholders. Levy gets a handsome bonus for his success in running the club. The winning metric is clearly not part of his role.

Sack Levy, he is, has been and will always be the problem. In order for us to progress, we need a CEO who knows something about football. Unfortunately, we are owned by Enic which in turn is owned by Joe Lewis and he is another charmer. See link below.

It would cost way too much to terminate Jose this or even next season which creates an interesting dilemma for Levy as he could soon find himself facing growing criticism from his manager over his transfer policies. There is a good chance we will witness the collision of two great egos as Jose will blame Levy for giving him a weak squad (conveniently forgetting the praise heaped upon his summer transfer window)and Levy will blame Jose for failing to make best use of the players available to him. The good news is that Levy loses no matter what the outcome – either his abject failure to replace aging or inadequate squad members will continually be thrown in his face or he will sack Jose and be criticized for making a costly mistake in his choice of a Poch replacement. Much as I would enjoy the thought of Levy squirming over this situation the bad news for Spurs fans is that it offers little prospect of things improving on the pitch in the near future.

Its going to be a long second half of the season, the way we are playing.

Trying to remain positive, and after all we are in a final and still in the other 2 cup competitions we entered.

The atmosphere needs to change and that only happen from performances and wins.

Just so much deadwood at the club. Outside of reguillon, its hard to make a case for any of the back 4/5 having a future. If Tanganga can’t get a game with us playing like this then I am not sure what it says for him.

If he goes it will be in the summer. A rocky ride until then is ahead!

I partly agree but you can’t shift the goalposts (terrible pun) when it suits. The manager is there to win football matches, manage the players and all the issues within it. The buck stops with the bloke in the dugout.

if Jose has gone along with the charade then he either has to make that work or face the pressure. We aren’t winning football matches right now, therefore like any other manager who isn’t winning matches he either turns it around or gets questions from his employers. Simple as that.

I’m not blaming Jose, sack the players who don’t care but still take their wages.

Makes no difference who the Manager is, The Style of Football will change but currently our players are not a Happy Bunch. If Jose did not have his Pedigree he would be gone, and thats a fact . He has lost the dressing room.

Hoping that I fall into the normal fans category….2 wins in 10 pl games is pretty rough especially with 6 games against bottom half teams.

I don’t dislike mourinho, actually grew to really like him from the Amazon doc but just don’t think he’s the right fit for our club. He won’t get backed in the transfer market to the degree he needs, no chance we’ll get players of the calibre he had at chelsea/inter/madrid.

Unfortunately mourinho has a distinct managerial style that doesn’t suit everyone. Look at Luke Shaw, terrible under JM, repeatedly getting dug out after games, bombed most weeks. Compared to him now, playing some very good football. Does it mean that mourinho is a worse manager than OGS, absolutely not, but it does mean that mourinho is a worse manager for Luke shaw
specifically. I think our squad is too Luke shaw and not enough drogba/lampard/terry and I can’t see that changing….

Yes not getting beaten from open play is a straw to clutch, but that defeat was more down to Chav’s profligacy in front of goal.I’m surprised Giroud didn’t play as he always scores against us and his conversion rate has to be better than Werner’s at present. The boy needs resting.

No managers walk these days, because it would jeopardise their compensation package as I have said in the past. Both Levy and Mourinho have some decisions to make before the end of the season as I don’t see it being financially viable to sack Mourinho before the summer.
Will Mourinho force his dismissal for the payoff or will he come to some arrangement with Levy about seriously improving the squad to that he can have half a chance of achieving some success.
Top four seems an impossibility the way we are playing and defeating City in the cup final is fanciful at best, although I would love to be proved wrong.

First Club he has lost 3 times to the same Manager, Potter. (Who did they just beat)

First time he has lost 2 home games in a row.

As Tappa said at least we didn’t concede from open play this time.

We’ve got a pretty good squad… but not so much for the way JM likes to play – soaking up the other teams attack and making no errors at the back then launching an effective counterattack. We don’t have the players we really need for ‘no errors at the back’. So either Levy needs to bring in some (oops just missed the recent window) and/or JM needs to adjust strategy until he has the players who can play his preferred way (a true test of Special One Genius is ever there was one)

No way he goes this season, can’t afford anyone worth signing.

Same as Poch, give him till the end of the season.

Maybe a cup or not to show for his work, then 6-10 games in, with a few cheap/loan signings.

Dropping like a stone or maybe smash em, time will tell. In, out shake it all about, who the fk knows.

Can Spurs afford to sack José, his payoff will be insanely high and whoever we bring in to try to claw back CL football won’t be cheap either. What a mess!
