Le10 Sport in France reported this week that Serge Aurier is poised to be offered a new long-term contract at Tottenham.
The Ivorian has been a major presence in the team this season, making 22 Premier League starts which is as many as his first two years at Spurs combined, in an advanced right-back role seemingly designed by Jose Mourinho to accentuate his strengths and protect his flaws.
While some of the fanbase may be willing to accept Aurier’s ratio of two bad things for every one good, I have long grown tired of his frequent calamities and wouldn’t want to see him sign-extended terms under any circumstance, Covid-19-impaired transfer market or not.
MORE: How Do Spurs Fans Feel About Serge Aurier Getting A New Contract?
The best-case scenario is that Daniel Levy wants to sign Aurier up merely in the name of asset protection, with his current contract expiring in 2022.
The likelihood of there being a buyer for the 27-year-old this summer seems slim if the transfer window is as compromised as anticipated, and Levy won’t want to be stung again like he has been with Christian Eriksen, by having a player’s value plummet in the final 12 months of their contract.
Ideally, I wouldn’t see another second of Aurier in a Spurs shirt. But, if I do have to accept 12 more months I want £25m for him next summer, not £10m.
Being low-balled for Serge Aurier would be a new kind of tragedy.

As usual, thinking in terms of pennies rather than pounds…
April fool’s ?
Giving him a new contract is Levy’s way of inflating his value for when he inevitably sells him.He knows he’s worth jack at the moment.
Bet he got an assistant on the phone and was like i told you grealish wasnt worth six mill now offer them 2 and get it done
‘But sir that wad a few seasons ago they are gonna want way more’
I said get it done
Levy’s austerity policies which have been in place for 20 years now suddenly fit with the world we’re living in. Levy must be happy as a pig in $hit right now..
ENIC OUT !! Not really sure how the argument but hes good at business stands for anyone now
Unbelievable. Aurier just isn’t good enough if you’re serious about assembling a competitive squad. More evidence that Levy isn’t…
ENIC OUT.
