Will Positional Twist For Sessegnon See Him Struggling For Minutes Under Mourinho?

By Joe Fish -

Jose Mourinho may have changed his mind on Ryan Sessegnon’s best position going forward based on the insight of Paul Brown in the Daily Star.

Brown writes that Mourinho now regards the 20-year-old as a winger, and therefore has shelved the idea of moving for Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser.

This would contradict Mourinho’s previous opinion of the former Fulham youngster who has mostly played at left-back or left wing-back in his 12 appearances this season.

There appeared to be a path to the first team for Sessegnon to develop as a left-back, where Ben Davies is a perennial understudy, but his chances of breaking into the side on the left wing, where we have Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn, seem slim.

Not only would that be bad news for Sessegnon but it would be bad news for Spurs as it would make the left-back position an even bigger transfer priority than it already is.

Under a different manager I think Sessegnon would be an ideal profile for a modern-day full-back but I do understand Mourinho’s concerns of using him as a defender in the current setup.

But this is a generational talent who we need to find a spot for soon.

If a generational talent can’t find a spot in that team we’re doomed. Son could easily play on the right if Session was that good, no?
