“Welcome To Spurs ” – These Fans Buzzing With Lyall Thomas Update

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham fans on Twitter are convinced that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is Spurs bound after he was stripped of the Southampton captaincy.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl had warned the midfielder in an interview on BBC Radio Solent that he would consider taking the armband off him if he didn’t sign an extension to his contract at St Mary’s, which will enter its final year in June. An official statement from Southampton this afternoon confirmed that Hasenhuttl had followed through on his threat and replaced Hojbjerg as skipper with James Ward-Prowse for the rest of the season.

Hojbjerg’s frequent links to Spurs date back to January when Sky Sports first reported that the 24-year-old was on our radar, and the Denmark international admitted to native outlet Sport1 in May that he was ready to test himself at a higher level after four years with the mid-table Saints.

Lyall Thomas broke the captaincy news to Tottenham twitter, and some of our fans are ready to welcome the former Bayern Munich man already!

Have you seen Sissoko play? Stephen Hawking had a better shot than him. Hojbjerg is comparatively world class. If you get £35m for a player with one year on his contract fair play, but it won’t be off Spurs. Everton might be dumb enough to do it, they bought Walcott!

Spurs won’t be the only club interested in him. I can see Everton, Sheffield United bidding and money will be no problem for Everton. I can’t see Southampton letting their skipper go for a low ball Levy offer of £10 million spread over five years. Only thing would see him at Spurs would be if there are no other bids, and unlike that Southampton fan I think this guy can play, he’s not a showy type of player, he reminds me of James Milner and Jordan Henderson, players who are underestimated and underappreciated because they do the dirty work that let’s the flash players shine. Remember Didier Deschamps, the water carrier, never catches the eye, until he’s not in the team. Not saying Hojbjerg is another Deschamps but he’ll flourish in a Tottenham shirt.

I tend to agree with the Saints fan below. From what I have seen of him, he is not much of an upgrade on what we have.

You can have him. He’s really not that good. Cant shoot and gives the ball away too often in midfield. £35 million of Levy’s money would be great though 🤣🤣

Unless we put up the money, we won’t get him any time soon. This will drag all window long.
