What’s Mourinho Got Up His Sleeve For Oliver Skipp & Harry Winks?

By Joe Fish -

It is no secret that Tottenham need a new defensive midfielder when the transfer window reopens. It was an area we were so rich in two years ago but the departure of Mousa Dembele, sad decline of Victor Wanyama and regression of Eric Dier has left it as one of the weakest points of the side.

There are nine games of the season before Jose Mourinho and his team will get the opportunity, and I use that in the loosest sense, to scour the market for the best holding midfielder our money can buy. Good luck with that.

In the meantime, the Special One has to find a solution from within the squad and it seems that it is between Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp for who could fill the No.6 role between now and the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Football London’s Alasdair Gold reports that Mourinho has been doing extra work with Winks and Skipp on their defensive game to ready them for this task. Skipp is said to have bulked up during lockdown which may give him the edge over Winks who is too lightweight to be the main sitter.

Who knows, if the next nine games go well for Skipp, Mourinho may not have to turn to the transfer market after all. All I’ve seen so far from the lad is that he’s an honest trier but I’m ready for him to prove me dead wrong.

Skippy like Marcus gonna be 22/23 to 31 ballers. That’s when you’ll see the best of them

Skippy deserves a good run of games. Not sure now is the time to give them though. Must win matches, loads of pressure. We have to play our best right now, not sure he cuts the grade, yet.
