Two trophies and best of the rest – what Tottenham will do next season

By Bruce Grove -

I did an earlier article on what my Tottenham bets would be for next season and today I am going to do my predictions on what Spurs will achieve in every competition next season.

I know in advance that I will get a lot of push back and that is just fine, I have my opinion and am not afraid to express it, however, I do have reasoning behind my predictions.

Simply put, I feel that other clubs are not in a much better state than us and that we have far more room for improvement than our nearest rivals.

Jose Mourinho is a winner, even his so-called failure at Man Utd resulted in multiple trophies and he is a man that gets the job done, even if the football, on occasions, is awful to watch.

As the headline says, I am going for Tottenham to pick up two pieces of silverware, I am confident one will be the Europa League and the other will most likely be the Carabao Cup. My thinking is that Mourinho will field a fairly strong team throughout the Carabao Cup and that does give us an advantage over our opponents, who for the most part field much weaker teams until the latter stages.

I am going for a third-place finish in the Premier League, I feel that we are better placed than the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea to have a consistent season and that will be the key.

Both Man Utd and Chelsea have problems in defence and have as of yet not addressed those, Leicester City and Wolves lack squad depth and Arsenal have a far bigger hill to climb than what Spurs do.

To conclude

Premier League – Third

Europa League – Winners

Carabao Cup – Winners

FA Cup – Min quarter-finals.

Let’s see. We finished worse, but that is just my view on quality of our football.

Well, I think part of the idea is hopefully we won’t start as poorly as we did last season which was close to relegation form

Misguided optimism doesn’t win you trophies, so you’re right to be less than positive. A good team wins trophies and we need more quality additions to get close to that before we can even think of any silverware. Do we honestly think that we’re better than the sides into the last 8 of the Europa League? I find that doubtful at the moment.

The whole season is going to be down to (as usual) Levy. We need a LB as backup/competition for Davies, and two RBs – regardless of whether Aurier stays or goes. Given that Levy usually spends an entire window trying to get a single player’s price down by a fiver, I worry intensely that Spurs will be wearing the unenviable badge of being the first club José Mourinho failed to win anything at.
If we pick up quality signings in the full back areas, then I’ll back your predictions. If not, I’m afraid we’re in for another long season of misery.

It’s very premature to make predictions before the season starts and until the window is closed.Squads could change so much in the coming weeks.
We can only hope that Jose gets the men he wants to at least give him a chance to do what he can with his choice of players.Only then should he be judged.Levy will have to play his part otherwise it could end badly.

I agree to some extent the situation with some other clubs. However, L’pool will add just one or two quality as usual, City have to do business and will after this seasons flop by their standards, I think Utd will try and get a couple of top players, one in place with Fernandes. Agree defensibly with Chelsea there’s and issue, but attacking wise they’ve done well getting Werner & Ziyech. I think top four and maybe the Carabao cup for us, which isn’t much more than Poch’s efforts.

” I feel that other clubs are not in a much better state than us” and “Premier League – Third

Europa League – Winners

Carabao Cup – Winners

FA Cup – Min quarter-finals.”

Pure comedy gold!! you have excelled yourself!! City and Liverpool were at least 50% better than us (they got 150% of our points tally, let that sink in, we would have had to play a further 20 games at that rate to simply catch them!!) Liverpool have added players (decent ones) and City will do too. So that is top 2 well beyond us (especially if trying to actually compete on 4 fronts instead of phoning in at least 2 of the cups). So you see us as better than all the rest? United not opened their books yet, Chelsea hardly either, Leicester have a far better foundation if they can keep their players, and Wolves actually have not got worse (and i would argue have one of the better coaches in the league). If you had said:
Europa: Win
Carabao cup: last 8
FA Cup: 4th Round
League: 5th or 6th

I could see that. Negative i know, but our squad, its more plausible. Jose will need to focus on the Europa above all else to win it, although its micky mouse at the start, the last 8 is usually tough, just ask United and Wolves.

Nice to see a positive outlook, I do think Mourinho will have a go in each competition, that’s his way , so that will be a refreshing change.

I wonder what odds the bookies would give you for those predictions.

I hope your right Bruce but hope I’m right that you have been on the gin since 7am which I totally respect.

God I hope you’re right.

A couple more signings in our problem positions and I might just join in on the optimism.

I still believe Jose is nobody’s fool and knows the Premier `League inside out – I’m amazed if anyone would bet the mortgage on him not winning at least one pot at Spurs.
