Tottenham running out of time to land final Jose Mourinho target

By Bruce Grove -

Its transfer deadline day for local deals and Tottenham still haven’t signed a defender for Jose Mourinho.

The Special One has made it clear that he needs a new centre-back after the club lost Juan Foyth and Jan Vertonghen in this transfer window.

The club tried to sign Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan but they were unsuccessful and they have turned their attention to Swansea’s Joe Rodon now.

The Welshmen are prepared to sell him even this late in the transfer, but both teams are struggling to reach an agreement over a transfer fee.

With today being the final day for all teams to conclude deals between English teams, Spurs are still not able to get their man.

The Daily Mail claims that Swansea is insisting on £18 million, while Spurs are yet to go beyond their initial £7 million.

Spurs also face competition from Leicester City for his signature and it will be interesting to see how that battle goes down.

Spurs have just Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld as their senior defenders at the moment and they face playing in four competitions.

If injuries start creeping in and they have no other centre-backs to turn to, Spurs might struggle.
