Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pursuing Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi, a 20-year-old French winger valued at over £80million by the Cherries, in a move that would represent a third successive hijack of an Arsenal transfer target this summer.
According to football.london, Spurs have placed Kroupi at the top of their attacking wishlist after already securing Sandro Tonali from Newcastle for £100million – a deal that collapsed at Arsenal’s end over wage demands of £275,000 per week – and Matheus Fernandes, who was also on Arsenal’s radar. The Independent has separately corroborated Tottenham’s interest in Kroupi as the club looks to add a versatile forward to a squad being rebuilt at significant expense.
A Player Worth Watching, a Club in No Rush to Sell
Kroupi joined Bournemouth from Lorient for around £10million on 2024 deadline day, spending the remainder of that season on loan in France before making his mark in the Premier League. He scored a dramatic goal against Manchester City last season that helped Arsenal clinch the title – which lends his recruitment a satisfying irony, depending on your persuasion. Quick, direct, and capable of operating across the front line, he is the kind of profile clubs at the top end are now fighting over.
The problem, and it is a meaningful one, is that Bournemouth have precisely zero interest in selling. Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has stressed that a deal this summer is considered highly unlikely, with the club insisting it would take an astronomical fee to even open talks – particularly as new boss Marco Rose will want Kroupi available from the start. Spurs’ interest in the Cherries’ squad is well-documented this window, with moves also mooted for Marcos Senesi and Alex Scott also attracting attention, but Kroupi is a significantly different proposition in terms of both fee and resistance.
Another Hijack, or Just Noise?
Tottenham’s pattern of picking off Arsenal targets has been conspicuous this summer – the Tonali deal followed a similar script to the Matheus Fernandes hijack, where Spurs moved sharply to beat rivals to the signature. Whether that aggression can overcome Bournemouth’s firm stance on Kroupi is another matter entirely. Chelsea and other European clubs have also been credited with interest, with a reported asking price of around £80million floating as a reference point. Spurs may yet need to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements if the Cherries don’t soften.
