Kevin Phillips has watched the transformation that Tanguy Ndombele has gone through as a Tottenham player and he is impressed, tipping the Frenchman to become a top signing for the club.
Ndombele joined Spurs last summer and he struggled in his first campaign at the club.
He didn’t do well under Mauricio Pochettino and when the Argentinean was fired and replaced with Jose Mourinho, things weren’t going to be easier for him.
The ever-demanding Mourinho soon fell out with him and he wasn’t considered as a starter in several games for the club.
Mourinho even subbed him at half time in a game against Burnley last season and it must have been hard for him to play for the Portuguese manager after that.
He was also linked with a move away from the club in the last transfer window.
But he was kept on and he has now become one of the club’s better players in this campaign.
Philips told Football Insider that the Frenchman has been getting better and he will end up being a top signing.
He said: “I said along that I thought he would come good. I just think that he needed a bit of time to settle in because it can be difficult.
“I heard him saying that the criticism that he received from Mourinho did not hurt him as much as other people thought. He took it in his stride and all that you can do then is get out on the pitch and show it.
“Mourinho is clearly a fan of his if he has started him in the last three Premier League games.
“I think he will get better and better and end up being a fantastic signing for Spurs. Real positive signs.”
Perhaps that’s why we only paid 5M for Dele.
