“Priority is to sign”, “…sent an official bid” – Romano shares the latest on striker linked with a move to Spurs

By Mehdi Gokal -

Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest update on Tottenham transfer target Gift Orban.

The Gent striker has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs this summer.

Previous report stated that Tottenham appreciate the Nigerian and they have already held positive contacts with the player’s representatives ahead of a potential move this summer.

Romano has also previously confirmed that the striker is keen on a move to the Premier League with Spurs.

Various reports over the past couple of weeks have suggested that a formal move from Tottenham for Orban is imminent and that they are expected to make a bid in the coming days.

Romano however in his latest update has squashed reports that came out of Belgium a few days ago claiming Spurs have made a bid to sign Orban.

The Italian emphasised that Tottenham’s current priority is to secure an offensive player to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure. And while Tottenham have considered the possibility of signing Gift Orban, Romano revealed that no official bid has been made for the striker as yet.

Romano said (via Kick):

“The priority is to sign an offensive player. We know they have to replace Harry Kane. They considered Gift Orban for a long time but they never sent an official bid.

“We had reports from Belgium about an official bid, it was last week or 10 days ago, but I’m told this is not true. Tottenham never sent an official bid.

“They considered that possibility, like they considered also Jonathan David who is a player they always appreciated, but they never presented an official bid.”

TBH Says:

If Tottenham have still not made a bid for Orban, it could perhaps indicate that their primary target is someone else, with the likes of Brennan Johnson also heavily linked with a move over the last week.

Football Insider‘s Pete O’Rourke reported yesterday that the North London club ‘are in pole position to land‘ the Nottingham Forest man, while Romano too reported yesterday that Spurs are prepared to approach Forest for Johnson this week.

The last couple of days will be crucial for Spurs as we approach the transfer deadline day. There is still quite some business left to do in terms of outgoings and incoming both.

We have had a decent transfer window so far but failing to sign an adequate replacement for Kane could have a huge impact on the season.
