“Positive contacts”, “keen on a potential move” – Fabrizio Romano shares encouraging Tottenham transfer update

By Mehdi Gokal -

Gent striker Gift Orban is keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur, Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano has reported that Tottenham appreciate the Nigerian and they have already held ‘positive contacts’ with the player’s representatives ahead of a potential move this summer.

He also states that Jonathan David is also appreciated by Tottenham however there are no concrete negotiations for either of the players so far.

He said:

“Yes, both players are appreciated, but for both players at the moment, while we’re speaking, there is still no concrete negotiation.“

“For Orban, they had some contacts on the player’s side. They pursued the player and had positive contacts because Orban is keen on a potential move to Premier League football and an important club like Tottenham. But, at the moment, there is still no official bid.”

Tottenham Hotspur lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich just days before the new season began and are yet to find a replacement for him.

They have been linked with a number of strikers over past several weeks including Mehdi Taremi, Jonathan David, Gift Orban, Romelu Lukaku, and Brennan Johnson.

As far as Jonathan David is concerned, Ben Jacobs in his podcast with Last Word on Spurs has stated that while the asking price for the striker is in the region of £55m, Spurs could be able to negotiate a deal at a reduced price due to the fact that the player himself is keen to join Spurs.

However, with just a week left in the transfer window to close, Spurs may be short of time as Jacobs previously mentioned that it won’t be easy doing business with Lille either with so little time left in the window.

On the other hand Gift Orban could be a cheaper option who would cost Spurs only £25million.

The striker’s impressive track record, including 20 goals and 2 assists in 22 appearances last season, followed by 6 goals in 6 games this season so far, has undoubtedly caught the attention of Tottenham.
