Neil Custis: Kane’s So Overpriced Marcus Rashford Is Looking Like A Good Bet

By Joe Fish -

Another day, another article on the future of Harry Kane.

Yesterday we brought you the report from the Daily Mail which claimed that Real Madrid was not targetting the Tottenham striker.

And now The Sun has ruled Manchester United out as a potential destination for the 26-year-old. Apparently Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prepared to shelve an expensive pursuit of Kane in favour of prioritising other signings with the supposed £200m that our hero might cost.

Solskjaer, obsessed with United’s history of producing their own talent, is also keen to protect Marcus Rashford’s status as the leader of his attack.

With United and Madrid seemingly out of the running, that has about halved the field if Kane was looking to leave when the transfer window reopened, or if Daniel Levy wanted to sell to generate some cash.

So as this author predicted a couple of weeks ago when the Kane rumours first surfaced, it is looking more and more likely he will be staying.

Kane has 5 years left at least. He will be managed well and not treated like an Eastern European donkey if he is transferred, especially if he goes overseas.

Agreed, Levy is a weasel, but Utd stuck it to Levy in the Berbatov deal. He didn’t like that because he’s normally the one who calls the shots. Nothing wrong with getting the most out of a deal, that is part of a chairman’s of COO’s job, but the selling club should do well out of any deal. Moving the goalposts when a deal is agreed is underhand and typical of how Levy goes about his work. How often has Levy been treated in this way though? Bale would have been a great fit for Utd, they wanted him, but Levy wasn’t interested. I think this is the same reason why Kane will not go to Utd.

Like the Eriksen saga…. value at £160 million sell for £16 million 12 months later.

I feel for HK. Rated as one of the Worlds best yet likely to have nothing but healthy bank balance to look back on when injury forces early retirement ……

Shame that …. even Shearer got 1 PL winners medal.

“too much animosity between Levy and them” is a description that could be levelled by a number of clubs at Levy. Everybody plays a game of brinkmanship when it comes to transfers. We have historically always sold our best players and everybody knows that Levy doesn’t care about winning anything, so we are seen as fair game. Captain Bungle has a simple mathematical formula for transfers, ask double what a player’s worth if you want to sell him and offer half the price for a player you are trying to buy. Simples!

Levy dealing with Utd to sell our crown jewel is a non starter. They stiffed us with Teddy and Carrick, and then told Berbatov to go on strike. Too much animosity between Levy and them. Throwing Frasier ‘worse England player ever candidate’ Campbell in to the mix was like Trump promising to build a wall and then asking the Mexicans to pay for it and build it. What a kick in the teeth that deal was. Let us not hide here, Kane would be great at Utd, with Rashford working off him and Sancho (supposedly their main target) on the other side of a 3, especially with Fernandez supplying, but I never thought for a second he would go there. Any commentary from then downplaying the need for him is utter brinksmanship. If Kane leaving becomes anymore than a rumour, he is too good an opportunity for the big boys to ignore.
