Klinsmann Says Kane Can Win Trophies At Spurs: Harry’s Got Time On His Hands

By Joe Fish -

Jurgen Klinsmann has describd Harry Kane as “exceptional” and is confident that he can fulful his trophy ambitions at Tottenham.

Kane admitted in an Instagram Live interview with Jamie Redknapp in March that he won’t stay with his boyhood club “for the sake of it”, if we aren’t in a position to challenge for major silverware – quotes via ESPN.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Spurs legend Klinsmann believes that we have a manager and squad in place to help Harry achieve his goals here.

“He can achieve anything he puts his mind to,” the German told talkSPORT 2. “He’s so, so talented, exceptional and he’s now into a stage of his career where he is far more mature. He’s not the young lad anymore, even if you think of him as a young player.

“Watching him from a distance, you wish him now titles. When you play a professional career, and you get the opportunity to play in a top-five team in any country in the world, then it’s about winning titles.

“And so, I keep all my fingers crossed for Spurs and for him that he can collect trophies – that’s what it is all about at the end of the day.

“That’s why I left in ’95. Even though I loved it at White Hart Lane, I had to leave for Bayern Munich because I said, ‘well I’m running out of time. I’m 31 years old and I need to win a couple more trophies’.

“But he has that chance with Spurs, he has a fantastic coach, he has a fantastic team and we all keep our fingers crossed that it happens sooner rather than later.”

Every Spurs player, past and present, are being quizzed on Kane’s future right now. On Tuesday it was Teddy Sheringham, who advised the striker on Sky Sports that he only has one career and needs to make the most of it.

Sheringham didn’t leave Spurs until he was 31 and still won every major trophy out there, and Klinsmann is another who collected lots of honours after his 30th birthday. Kane is only 26; he still has time on his hands. The urgency that some people are so desperate to push just doesn’t exist.

I agree with all 4 comments below, he needs someone to play along side or take the pressure off him. That will take his place in 3 or 4 years. But we have never really done succession planning well have we. Wish Levy was a rocket scientist not a property manager.

Agree with all 3 comments below. We need to become the team that takes players of Kane’s calibre. This will not come from signing young lads with potential from the Championship, French or Dutch leagues to play along side him. We need proven quality, but that costs money, which Levy says we don’t have. This is what Klopp did to make Liverpool the team they are. Infact, any club that has consistently won trophies followed that model. Is it rocket science, I don’t think so?

Klinsmann and Sheringham won silverware when they left Spurs and joined bigger clubs with better players and more resources. It’s not rocket science.
Carrying an injury that looks likely to return each season because he is played too much without backup,a team that is in need of serious makeover and the most frugal transfer Meister in the PL,who is only interested in top four, would tend to suggest Kane’s options are best suited elsewhere.
Will his kids be impressed with a CL losers medal?I don’t think so.

Fingers crossed isn’t going to cut it, quality players would help though. Difference between Harry and Klinsmann and Sheringham is that they weren’t injured for long periods of each season. Still no backup strike, still no rest for Harry, he’ll be playing every minute of every game as usual. Harry needs to take a good look at Jack Wilshere, a player with all the talent to dominate in his position but whose career has basically finished even if he plays on. He never recovered from ankle injury problems which have given Harry trouble too.

He’s 27 in july.. So in three years hes nearly 30… Peak kane right now. Considering we are in transition it will take one to two years to make moves in transfers and for players to bed in.. Maybe three years to levys standard of signings. Three years isnt long to think poch was here for twice that time. It’s surely now or never from kanes perspective, he will want some world class players coming in. Enough of these two bob players, if we can get quality for cheap then happy days but we have wasted money on bums.. In a game ruled by money you tend to get what you pay for. “Bargain bucket fc’ isn’t winning titles thats for sure.
