“I’m very excited” – Former Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli discusses transfer to Everton

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur decided to let midfielder Dele Alli depart for Everton during deadline day for the January transfer window. The 25-year-old arrived with The Toffees on a deal that could command up to £40million.

Spurs will receive a fee that surrounds how well Alli does at Everton due to the agreement structured with performance-related add-ons. Following his departure from the north London club, the midfielder spoke with Sky Sports to discuss his move to Goodison Park.

“I’m very excited, a bit tired from the long day but we got there in the end. I’m delighted,” Alli said. “I’ve had a few good conversations with him [Lampard] already; he’s a player I admired through his whole career watching him.”

“I’m pleased to work with him; it’s very exciting. I’m sure we can do great things together. I just want to be happy playing football. Working with Lampard, and the great players Everton have got is a great opportunity for me to do that. I’m excited to go there, show the fans what I can do, and help the club as much as I can.”

New Everton manager Frank Lampard wanted Alli as the former Chelsea manager believes he’s the right guy to turn around the midfielder’s career. Furthermore, it’s a low-risk investment from The Toffees, considering they won’t have to make any payment until Alli makes 20 appearances for the club.

With the midfielder already cup-tied, Alli can only play Premier League matches, and with 18 games left in the season, Everton won’t have to pay until next season. For Tottenham, they’ll be rooting to see if Alli can rediscover his past form to bring in a significant fee.
