One of the negatives of Spurs’ match against Manchester City at the weekend was the injury to Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian has been a key part of the Tottenham squad this season and he was in a fine form in the game against the Citizens.
He was, however, unable to finish the game as he pulled up injured, and he had to be replaced by Joe Rodon.
After Spurs failed to land Milan Skriniar in the last transfer window, they turned to Rodon, who was playing for Swansea at the time.
The Welshman is now the fourth-choice centre-back for Tottenham, but that injury had pushed him closer to first-team football.
If Jose Mourinho picks him to start Tottenham’s next game, his most likely defence partner will be Eric Dier, and the Englishman has backed him to shine.
Dier admits he hasn’t exactly been speaking with the defender, but he can see his humility and eagerness to work hard to help the team.
“It’s difficult as we haven’t really spent a lot of time together since he arrived. From what I can see, he’s very humble, very hard-working. From what I can see he has a fantastic mentality to want to work, to improve,” said Dier via Football London.
“From what I’ve seen [of him] around the training ground, all of those things have been fantastic, and I know the Welsh boys Ben and Gareth speak very highly of him. So excited for him to be able to help the team.”
Good news for us sheep botherers as well
He’s ineligible for our next match,in the Ropey league, which I think will see Dier partnered with Davies (LCB).I believe Mourinho has lost faith in Sanchez and could well move him on in January.
Let’s hope Eric gets to know him a lot better this week but I’m sure José will have a plan for Chelski though.
I saw Rodon play a couple of years ago, he was brilliant. I predict in less than 2 years he and Dier will be top defence partnership in the premiere league.
