Dele Alli: Crystal Palace Goal My Best, But This Is My Favourite For Spurs [Video]

By Joe Fish -

Dele Alli recently recounted his top three Tottenham goals to date in an interview with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.

Unsurprisingly, the 24-year-old named that volley against Crystal Palace in his debut season with us as his best from a technical and difficulty standpoint, but interesting remembers another goal as his favourite.

Dele says either of his two headers in the 2017 home win over Chelsea are closer to his heart because of the significance of the game.

If we’d have gone on to beat Chelsea to the Premier League title that season then I may think differently, but I prefer the Palace goal. I remember streaming the game in my lounge and jumping out of my chair, running around the house, desperate to find somebody to explain what I’d just seen.

Simply magic.

He’s that kind of player, Gus Poyet was similar in some ways. He’d have little impact on a game but might play a key role in a goal or score at a crucial time. I’m not saying that excuses him but some players are a bit like that. I agree, he needs to be far more consistent though.

As 2 goals go you will have to go along way to beat the Palace and Utd efforts. However, if Spurs are to compete at the top we need our most talented players showing it week in week out, not in glimpses. I can only count on Mickey Mouse’s hand the number of MOTM performances Dele has had in the last two years for us. I get it he is a young lad, I get it we haven’t hit form for well over a year and the next two years will be telling for him. For me he has to sort out the basics, especially ball retention. In that Utd game I thought the goal was great, his overall performance wasn’t though. I want him to go in the changing room at half/full time and have a go at the players by saying “I can do it, so should you.” Before the break Jose was substituting him and rightly so.

I agree. He’s got so much talent. He tries things and they often don’t come off, but when they do..

If I was Joe Lewis I would consider putting my hand in my pocket to fund something this summer. The transfer market is set to be a buyers market with plenty of bargains available for anyone who can splash the cash. From an investment point of view, this is the perfect time to buy. When you consider the FFP restrictions will also be loosened… I can understand why Saudi Arabia bought Newcastle.

It really was magic! I was at Selhurst Park that day, sitting in the Arthur Waite stand with the Palace fans trying desperately to keep myself together! 😄

All those slagging off Dele of late need to remember what qualities he actually has and back him to bring it back into his game.

He’s been playing in a dysfunctional side at a dysfunctional club for over 18 months now.

The dysfunction in the team and the club should be the focus, not digging out individuals who have been great for us in the recent past.

ENIC OUT.
