Bale’s arrival credited for the upturn in form of these Spurs’ stars

By Bruce Grove -

Gareth Bale returned to Tottenham in the last transfer window as the club looks to end this campaign with some form of silverware.

The Lilywhites are now being managed by one of the best coaches in the world, Jose Mourinho and it makes sense that they will take advantage of his presence and try to win as many trophies as they can.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, they have been able to sign some of the best players available and their team is now full of quality.

One player whose arrival has signalled the intention of the team to compete for the top trophies is Gareth Bale.

The attacker had spent the last seven years at Real Madrid and he won every club football competition he could in Spain.

His arrival was expected to give their team a major boost. Although he hasn’t been the Bale of old in terms of scoring goals and running at defenders, Danny Murphy reckons his presence has helped Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn to up their game.

He writes in the Daily Mail: “If you want to assess the impact Gareth Bale has had at Tottenham, look at the good form of Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn.

“While Bale hasn’t hit the heights of his previous spell at Spurs — predictably given the amount of football he’s missed in the last two years — his arrival has inspired others because of the extra competition for places he brings.

“Bergwijn hasn’t scored this season but has still been an important cog in Jose Mourinho’s machine. He has had to up his game and responded to keep Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and Bale out of the starting XI.

“Even Son wouldn’t have felt completely secure when Bale walked in to huge fanfare and he’s also reacted in the way Mourinho wanted with a flurry of goals.”
