Wright predicts north London derby outcome as he praises Spurs

By Bruce Grove -

Ian Wright admits that Tottenham are a strong team and they are favourites to beat Arsenal in the north London derby tomorrow.

Spurs have started this season on a very bright note while Arsenal wallows below the top ten, just ten games into the new season.

Jose Mourinho’s men have topped the league table over the last two Premier League weekends and beating Arsenal will keep them there for another week.

Even though they only lead Liverpool by goal difference, their position shows that they have become the superior side in north London and the Sunday game gives them the chance to shove that in the face of Arsenal.

Wright admits that Mourinho can come up with a game plan that will hurt Arsenal.

He recalled how the Special One set up his team to hurt opponents during his first time in England as the manager of Chelsea, saying that he has that same defending and counter-attacking system now at Spurs, but he predicts that Arsenal will still win the game.

Wright said via Metro: ‘In his first tenure it was Robben, Cole and Drogba who used to cause us all sorts of problems, he knows how to play against an Arsenal side.

‘He knows that you can soak up that pressure and if it’s not quite working you can get through them and you can counter attack them and it’s the same now.

‘You really can’t blame him (Aubameyang) for not getting chances, it’s not up to him, he’s there finish them and we know he can do that very, very well.

‘You have to hope that the creativity from the midfield to the forwards get better because at the moment from the forwards point of view it’s not happening.

‘I’d say they’re not creating enough chances for our main man to score so you’d have to say with Spurs and their free-scoring vibe at the minute you have to fancy them as favourites but I’m still going to go with Arsenal to beat them 3-2.’

For you below, I was there for years when we were ‘sh*t’. You assume a lot of stuff to back up your constant anti-Poch agenda, all of which is in your own mind. By the way, you are always the one that starts throwing insults as others in here will also confirm. Don’t like it when it comes back your way that’s all…

Anything can happen in a derby, but while I’m hardly enthused by Jose’s brand of football, we are at least well drilled and efficient right now. Something that I don’t see in our opponents today.

It will be the usual attritional approach and allowing the away side the lion share of possession. That should be enough against that lot. Even if it is dull as dishwater…

You’re wasting your time DD, he’s incapable of discussing anything in anything other than a childish slagging match. Which is why I don’t bother engaging with it. The world according to Tappa, unless you tow the line you get called names. 👍 😂

He’s clearly attempting to get a reaction, which is a bit sad innit. If you continue to disagree with someone then agree to disagree and move on ffs. The world according to Tappa, unless you tow the line you get called names. Debate? 🤔 👍 😂

Chelski thought as much in the FA cup final and underestimated Arsenal.

Tappa talking his usual drivel. Then again, if your ticket is a freebie you’re not actually paying to watch dross, like the rest of the fans…. 🤔

Easty I wish it was that easy but the beauty of football is it’s unpredictably, being long in the tooth about taking nothing for granted, hand on heart you know that and I know that! Despite Arsenal’s dismal form very very surprised if they are lambs to the slaughter. They are quite capable of winning and so are we. Given bitter rivalries and bragging rights at stake I am expecting a feisty contest which hopefully ends in a Spurs win!!
