Daniel Levy handles player contracts at Tottenham; Mauricio Pochettino made that clear during the Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld sagas.
Eric Dier is the latest Spurs player to find his contract winding down, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that he is set to sign a new deal.

The 26-year-old hasn’t earned his new contract through his performances on the pitch. A handful of decent games as a centre-half prior to lockdown isn’t enough to override two seasons of disapponting form and fitness.
He still had a lot to prove over the remaining nine games of the season to earn an extension to a deal which expires in June 2021 [transfermarkt.com].
Jose Mourinho has always been a big fan of Dier and you can see that he wants to find a role for him going forward. That may be back in defence.
But is this reported new contract motivated by a chairman’s desire to arm his manager with the players that he wants, or simply the bottom line?
Is Levy merely protecting his asset so he won’t get burned like he did with Eriksen? Tying Dier down to a longer contract would stop his value from slipping, and give the club the opportunity to open him up to bidders in a more active market if we do decide to sell beyond this summer window.
And we all know that Levy will have the final say on who he sells and when. And we also all know, in our current financial state, players will be sold.
At the moment, a new Dier contract appears to satisfy all parties. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Levy still has plans to put Dier in the shop window further down the line, and that is when he and Jose could cross swords.
