Tottenham Hotspur is fighting for a top-four spot in the Premier League to clinch UEFA Champions League football for next season. However, the battle for fourth place consists of five clubs for one spot.
After losing at Old Trafford last weekend, Spurs bounced back this week with a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion FC. Manager Antonio Conte spoke with Sky Sports and shared his thoughts on whether his squad is ready for this bout for a top-four finish.
“In this moment, now I have great confidence,” Conte said. “My feeling is good because I’m seeing great improvement. We are working very hard in these five months [that he’s been in charge], but now I’m starting to see great improvement of my team in many aspects: not only on the pitch but also outside, with the mentality.”
“I think we’re preparing to have another step, and it will be very important to finish the season in the best possible way to continue to give us the confidence and to continue to believe in the work we’re doing.”
Tottenham has an important fixture this weekend as they welcome West Ham United. Spurs want to leap over The Hammers, as a victory would see them bypass an opponent for that final Champions League spot.
Nonetheless, they cannot stop there as the fixture that needs to be rescheduled against Arsenal will also have implications on the top four race. They’ll also need to take care of business against clubs below them in the table and avoid dropping points.
