Another journalist jumps on the anti-Bale bandwagon

By Bruce Grove -

Chief Sports writer at the Sun, Dave Kidd reckons that Tottenham has got a Gareth Bale that is nearing the end of his career, and his return to the club might be a waste of time.

Spurs landed the Welshman on loan from Real Madrid in the summer after he struggled for playing time in the Spanish capital.

The hope was that he would be the catalyst as Tottenham look to end their wait for a trophy.

They might still end their trophy drought after reaching the final of the Carabao Cup, but Bale has played no significant role in their success this season.

He was given a rare start against Brighton in Spurs’ last match in the absence of Harry Kane, but he didn’t take his chance.

Kidd says the attacker can still be a useful option as a squad member, but it is unimaginable that he will start for Tottenham again.

He added that he doesn’t look like a player who would have a fine second half of the season, and says we might be seeing the beginning of the end of his footballing career.

Kidd writes on Sun Sport: “But you could still have imagined Bale, at least, as a very useful squad player for Spurs.

“Not after Sunday’s fiasco, though. Now it would be a surprise if Bale starts another Premier League match under Mourinho.

“The return of the prodigal son had lifted spirits at the Lane in September — even though Mourinho’s side tossed away a three-goal lead against West Ham after Bale arrived as a late sub for his second Spurs debut.

“Now the idea that Bale might come to the fore later in the season seems to have been torpedoed and his remarkable career could be drifting towards a premature and unsatisfactory end.”

Fearing another debacle surely Vini must lead the line against Chelsea simply to pressurise the Chelsea back 4!

That’s where I mean HH with Kane in the middle and Son and Bale switching flanks..

Vinicius isn’t rated by JM. I’m struggling to see what’s confusing about that.

The problem is that Toby can’t play vmevery game, Moura is largely ineffectual. Dier is brimming with errors.

Bale had a dreadful game.

Can anybody explain to me why we got a second striker if we are not playing him when our main striker is out as a backup what I believe if Mourinho started the game against Brighton by fielding front 3, Son Moura and Vinícius, behind them Ndombele and in the midfield Hojbjerg, sissoko then the defence Toby Rodon Japhet and Davies and just incase you want to make change in later stages bring Bale Bergwijn Dier whatever I think we could have won that game or at least could have been a draw to be honest I beginning to have doubts about Mourinho tactics and I’m not one of his big critics but when I see what happened that game it is mind boggling cheers.

He’s a millionaire many times one. He has no hunger or fight. Why should he exert himself as he nothing to prove

Bale not working, that’s a shocker, no-one saw that coming. Bale, Golf, Madrid, Tottenham. In that order. Jose should tell him where he is playing – not the other way round.

Bale has told JM he doesn’t want to play up front, he now likes to play right side of attack.

Bale is here until the end of the season and I would play him regularly now, upfront with Kane when he is back, and with Son. I would also reintroduce Ali alongside Ndombele with Hoijberg as DM.I would partner Toby with Rodon at the back and have Requilion on the left and perhaps give Tanganya a run out at RB or isn’t there a young guy who shows a lot of promise in that position. Keep Sissoko on the bench as a sub. Play a higher line and attack with a high press and open up the flanks left and right. Bale and Son to rotate left and right. get control of the match in the first half. Bring subs on around 70 mins to hold the lead.

We just don’t know how Bale will work out but when we seriously need help it’s unlikely to come from him. Hope I’m wrong.
