Wins over Arsenal and Newcastle count for nothing if Mourinho drops the ball in final two games

By Bruce Grove -

Beating Arsenal is obviously a good thing, a massive thing for the fans, Jose Mourinho and the players but it all counts for nothing if the Gunners finish above us and we miss out on European football next season.

Over the next two Sundays Spurs face off against Leicester City and Crystal Palace, both banana skin games, especially against the Foxes who are desperately hanging on to the fourth spot.

The scenario is simple, we are in seventh and providing Arsenal does not win the FA Cup we will finish the season in a Europa League spot if we win both our remaining games.

There are other permutations and in fact, eighth could still be a Europa League spot available depending on where Man Utd and Wolves finish and if either of them triumph in this season Europa League.

And of course, if we lose to Brendan Rodgers men and Arsenal beat Aston Villa then they leapfrog us with a game to go.

So, it is nice that we can banter Arsenal for a single win over them but if we finish below them and miss out on European football next season then this season cannot be classed as anything other than a complete failure.

The season will still be classed as a failure anyway but not a total one if we finish seventh or better and stay above that mob down the road.

So, it is on Jose Mourinho and the lads, it is all in their hands now, two wins from the final two games and we are in Europe and the kings of North London.

If we play to our best ability we can win both games.
