Reward good performances; punish bad performances. It is a simple managerial principle which Mauricio Pochettino seems to have lost.
Danny Rose has been a wonderful player for Tottenham Hotspur. He isn’t any more, and his last few appearances have stunk of careless apathy.
Yet, despite Ben Davies’s impressive display in the 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday, Rose was recalled for today’s visit to Liverpool, and Pochettino’s policy of rotating for rotation’s sake came back to bite him.
Rose failed to clear at the back post, allowing Jordan Henderson to volley Liverpool level at 1-1. It was a similar mistake to the one the England full-back made against Watford where he misjudged a ball over his head.

Who else would appear at the back post to deliver a much needed goal.

Jordan Henderson, that’s who. #LFC pic.twitter.com/5eUsa89b33
Rose is suspended for next weekend’s trip to Everton so Davies will get an overdue opportunity to start in the Premier League this campaign.
I would love him to sit in a room with Kevin Prince Boeteng. Another player with so much potential that pissed it up the wall…only to realise now its almost too late that he should have done it better.
Him a lickle bwoy bredrin. Like I said “22/23
he is only 20…I give you that.
Too late” come on man, he’s still practically a boy. When did Ian Wright start again. Anyway you’ll see.😊
I also like what Gazzinega brings to the table. Vocal, good reflexes and distribution. Hopefully this run of games will bring him on in terms of experience and we can let Le Capitaine go next season
yes – I 100% think that Messi must have had work ethic. Talent can only get you so far. Don’t get me worng, you can be a knob and have work ethic…but Edwards simply saw the potential and thought it was enough, now I think its too late.
Well put.
Lamela as I said, almost identical, ended up in a penalty to us… I don’t think that was even a debatable foul, it was clear. The Kane one was different, but still should have been given. If there is enough room between the player and the ball that allows an opponent to get between it, then you don’t have control of the ball…end of. Personally though, arguing over the penalty details is silly…we were beaten all over the park. Despite the fact we could have been 3-0 up because we almost scored each time we went forward, we relied on a defence leakier than a sieve.
Arsenal game, Kane vs Sokratis – not given. Presumably because Kane initiated contact by moving across the defender, even if he is allowed to shield the ball. Sokratis hits him from behind and down Kane goes. Mane & Aurier is similar. Mane cuts across Aurrer in the act of clearing the ball and gets collected and goes down – penalty.
Do you think if Messi was a knob as a yout he wouldn’t be playing for barca
I disagree. I think it would have been given
I hope you are right…but I doubt it. Sorry, not on this one. I just hate players with so much talent and so little between the ears. I have trained youth players in Rugby and Football, and those players have always riled me. You have lads with more heart than they know what to do with, with good ethics and workmanship…then you have the knobs with talent and nothing else. They turn up, show off and think the world should bow. I have not met 1 single talented player make it without the correct attitude, and that attitude cant be put there by the coaches (I have tried). I had one lad, Rugby player, could have played for England, made it to county team u18 when he was 16, and did it while ill…Yet when it came to training, he really couldn’t be arsed “why should I when I am the best”. I had to drop him in the end because I was losing the rest of the teams morale, he went to a rival team, did ok, but never made it past semi pro level – he is 25ish now, over weight and really still thinks he is great.
We all know that if it was Kane and Louvren in that situation in their penalty area, the ref would not have given it. Even if giving it was technically correct.
Daniel I’ve got lammy on line one and clasford on line two. Clasford how are you mate still turning them boys into good young men, the late youth club thing you’ve started there is a great idea. Till 11 is it. Anyway what can I do for ya.
Why is it that I am regularly asked if I wanna sell my Brompton and my blue eyed bromy owners are never asked
Dele moving like he don’t wanna play for England anymore
Just wait and see mate. He’ll start to shake up the world soon. Some start to get it in their early 20s 22-23 he’s one of them. Anyway just wait for now.
Yep maybe, but he was in the act of kicking the ball, somefuk hadn’t touched it. Oh well mut point really… still ar fuk it.
My man clasford sterling MBE broadwater FC coach who has produced 250 Professional footballers from BW farm. kwp and frimpong two of his proudest) said to me once “Marcus is the most talented young baller he has ever seen and that’s saying something considering the 1000s he has seen (up close). He’s supplied all London clubs. There is not a club in London (maybe the country) that would charge clasford to get in. He is probably the only black man levy would take their call instantly.
Want to encourage him to leave in Jan – banish him to the side. Can his arse – watching him ruin our games works for no-one.
He has managed to play for the sum total of 3.5 games spread over 5 appearances out of a possible 15 for a 2 bit Italian side…scored once. I cant see his career turning around.
I would agree in most circumstances…but his first touch moved the ball to an area that was not “under his control” so basically gifting the ball to Mane. He then swung a leg at it. It was a clear penalty. Up there with the one we got at Anfield with Lamela last year I think.
Marcus Edwards will play for England before Dele does again. Southgate love Marcus Edwards. I’m sure he made him his captain once when he managed the youts. Never shoulda sold that boy, the not to distance future will prove that. He’s better than Sancho, you should laugh at me all you want coz I’m gonna laugh loud last.
I don’t get it, If you touched the ball last then went to kick it and somefuk steps in your way how its that not a foul, for you. TAA should have been sent off of a second bookable.
Alli has been missing for all of last season, and all of this so far. Absolutely no idea why Poch picked him at Anfield yesterday, frustrating to say the least, when Ndombele and Lucas were on the bench. And why leave Lamela out, he has been 1000 time better than Alli this season. I know what people say about Lucas, that he seems to blow hot and cold, but surely he would have been 3 million time better than Delle yesterday. As for Eriksen: The conclusions that i can draw from him playing are that Levy is telling Poch to play him to keep him in the shop window, or to keep him happy to maybe accept a new contract, or to keep him happy enough that he will accept being sold in January so that at least he does not go for nothing in the summer, and Levy misses out on 30 million or so. Otherwise, what conceivable reason can there be for him being stuck on there to mark possibly the best marauding full back in the PL. Yesterday, every time we attacked Liverpool we looked like scoring, perhaps if there was another couple of players out there who could be bothered we may have got something, as opposed to us playing with 9/8/7 men against them as has been suggested…
£70mil
Slim shady on chopped LIVERpool😊
Advantage Liverpool.
Bloodclaaaat! Imagine.
Him and Donny van Beek would be nice.
That boy need to be cashed in on. Buy him get Erikson free
Let’s be honest, a one-legged man in an arse-kicking competition would be an upgrade on Dele at the moment. Needs to find where he left his mojo.
Hakim. I’ve been banging on about him for years. Proper spurs player. Him and Yousef atal would be a dream. Off your seat ballers
OnePundit yesterday, cant remember who, said along the lines of…”I am not sure who at spurs, fans included, thought they could ever win at Anfield with only 9 men” with reference to CE and Alli. I would argue add in Aurier, and rose, we went there with only 7 players actually playing to win. And Toby falls into a grey area.
