Isn’t it about time we had a real captain? Someone who inspires confidence and not anxiety; someone who is ready to carry the club’s ambitions on his shoulders and pull the rest of the team with him.
There are few such characters about in the modern-day game and Hugo Lloris certainly isn’t one of them. And yet somehow the Frenchman has fluked his way to being a World Cup-winning skipper and wearing the armband at Tottenham for far too long – five years.
I’m not privvy to what goes on behind the scenes but Lloris has shown few signs of leadership on the pitch, that I have noticed. It is always Harry Kane, or the Belgian boys, or even Dele Alli doing the rousing when we need it.
His comments today in an interview with Sky Sports also paint Lloris in a poor light as far as his captaincy his concerned, as a leader who has been unable to galvanise his team-mates after disappointment.
The 33-year-old admitted to Sky Sports that the boys have not recovered from our Champions League final loss, and also suggested that we were punching above our weight to begin with, in getting to Madrid.
Hardly the language of a leader, and these Spurs fans on Twitter are unimpressed with Lloris’ weak mentality and ready for a new captain.
Warning: Some of these tweets contain explicit language…
Apologies but I find this fella so incredibly boring and a useless captain. Kane should have got the job after Hugo had disgraced himself. https://t.co/V6RW7aHygh

And having a f*cking useless captain who does absolutely nothing to motivate the players and makes mistake after mistake

Laughable from lloris, he is one of the two or three weakest links in our team

Small club mentality. You’d think a WC winner would be able to inspire his team mates. If anything Lloris has been a liability at Spurs for a few seasons now.

I don’t get why Kane is England captain and not Spurs captain. Makes no sense

Totally agree Paul. He is a thinker and obviously a bright guy. As a leader I don’t see it either. Just give it to pic.twitter.com/CO351Z8w7q
