Tottenham transfer news: Mourinho and Levy do not agree on record signing

By Rob S -

One of the key ingredients to the health of a football club is a strong relationship between chairman and manager.

From the outside, the lack of unity between Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy appeared to play a part in our former boss’s demise – with Poch frequently grumbling and suggesting in public that his hands were tied in terms of transfers.

Now cracks may be appearing in the bond between Levy and current manager Jose Mourinho.

A report in France has claimed that Levy and Mourinho hold fundamentally different views about what to do with club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele.

Foot Mercato ran a report on Ndombele yesterday, linking him with interest from PSG and Barcelona.

At the bottom of the article, it was claimed that Levy remains a big fan of the midfielder despite his frustrating first season – which has been blighted by fitness issues and occasional accusations of a lack of effort.

But it is also claimed in the report that Mourinho does not share Levy’s faith, suggesting he would be happy to cash-in on interest from one of Europe’s big boys.

I rate Tanguy highly but when we were linked with him there were some opinions in a few reports over his attitude before he ever set foot in England. They weren’t saying he had a terrible attitude but that there were some ‘question marks’.

It seems Poch wanted Fernandes who looks a real player already Utd but being slightly older, the old profit margin on a resale meant Levy was always going to favour a 22 year old.

Thing is, buying younger players has worked out to a point for Levy. They’re cheaper and you let them go when they’re after the big contract of their career they want (generally) in their mid to late 20’s. This all equates to less expenditure on transfer fees and less wages across the team.

However, the reason why it worked out to the point where we were top four with the 17th net spend every season, was because of the manager and the way they do things.

This is what makes the appointment of Jose even more puzzling. After Poch was sacked most people expected his replacement to be someone who would relish working with a younger group of players. Howe, Rodgers or some bloke from Europe of that type.

It’s hard to see this working out between Levy and Jose. The pair of them are inevitably going to clash. Poch moaned at least with a smile, if Jose moans it’s never with a smile.

Levy wants the PR around the stadium to be positivity on top of positivity. Poch evolved into what he was at Spurs under Levy but Jose is an outsider.

He doesn’t need the Spurs job unless it eventually restores his reputation and if it’s an impossible job he will go and blame Levy rather than it look like it’s his fault…

Sooner he’s gone the better… First couple of games tanguy excited me.. He has skill.. But at Burnley we were 1-0 down and we had a corner and he walked to take it. A slow amble stroll, i would have shouted at him to hurry up if it was a casual kick about in the park. Absolutely shocking mentality. This reflected most of his games for us now.. Considering he’s our record signing, one would think he was scouted for some time. We won’t win anything with players who have no urgency to win. That centre mid position needs a general, a warrior, someone prepared to put their life on the line. Someone who refuses to lose, at least not without going down fighting. Ndomballboy can go home.

Agreed.Levy’s footballing knowledge is second to none and that’s the reason Spurs have won so many titles. He puts the rest to shame.Mourinho has to prove himself first before daring to have a different point of view to our illustrious leader.

If a manager doesn’t like a player, for whatever the reason may be. He has to go. Its as simple as that. If Jose wants him gone the chairman has to respect that and do his b€$t work. Him and celly. What’s not to like. It can’t be his footballing ability José don’t like.
