Tottenham told that target is no longer for sale despite reports of a bid

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has seen their approach for Nicolò Zaniolo rejected by AS Roma who is no longer interested in selling the versatile Italian, reports TalkSport.

Spurs have been tracking the Italian for some time now with Jose Mourinho keen to add his versatility to his team’s creativity.

AS Roma had placed him in the market as they hoped to cash in on him and rebuild their team.

However, that was before the Italian side had a change of ownership, the club has since been sold by James Pallotta to Dan Friedkin.

Friedkin has the ambition of turning the Rome-based side into a powerhouse in Italian football and he has made keeping Zaniolo a priority.

90 Mins claim that Spurs had been so keen to land him that they arranged talks with the Italian side.

The same report also adds that contrary to popular belief that Spurs made a bid for the 21-year-old, they actually backed out of the deal after Roma made it categorically clear to them that it was impossible for them to sign him because he is no longer available for transfer.

Mourinho looks a happy man with the deals that Spurs have completed so far, but the Portuguese manager will hope that the Lilywhites will still add some players as they face playing in four competitions next season.
