According to Sami Mokbel of Daily Mail, Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz has emerged as one of the players identified by Tottenham to replace Pierre-Emile Hojberg.
Hojbjerg is strongly linked with a move to Atlético Madrid with talks ongoing regarding a potential transfer this summer.
The report claims that Spurs have so far managed to resist the advances from the La Liga side but are willing to sell him for the right price.
However, Mokbel further adds that the club has already started the process of identifying the replacements for the Denmark international who is expected to complete his move to Madrid “in the coming weeks”.
“Spurs have already started the process of identifying targets for Hojbjerg, with the expectancy that the 27-year-old will move to Madrid in the coming weeks.”
And Luiz is among the players the club are considering signing. He was a regular start for them last season playing a key role in their comeback from being in relegation form to qualifying for the UEFA Conference League.
However, whether Aston Villa will be willing to sell him or not remains unsure.
It’s been previously reported that the qualities of the 27-year-old may not suit the style of play Ange Postecoglou wants to instil which has put a question mark on his future at the club.
He joined Spurs in 2020 after impressing the club with his performances for Southampton.
And since joining he has been one of Spurs’ most consistent and reliable players in the midfield.
But with him now reportedly not in Postecoglou’s plans, Spurs could be cashing in on him and replacing him with someone who suits the new manager’s style of play.
