Tottenham’s summer transfer window is well underway and the sense one gets is that Ange Postecoglou is of a mind to get as much work done ahead of the club’s exotic preseason in Australia and Singapore.
The schedule for that trip by the way sees the group flying out on Friday, July 14th, to Australia. On Tuesday, July 18th Tottenham faces West Ham United in Perth. Then on Sunday, July 23rd, it’s Tottenham vs Leicester City in Bangkok; Wednesday, July 26th sees Tottenham taking on José Mourinho’s Roma, with the final game of the series in Singapore, as Spurs play Shakhtar Donetsk.
So far, Postecoglou has in place a new first-team goalkeeper and a creative midfielder, but in order to effect meaningful change at the club, more change is surely required. The Mail Online says this afternoon, that Atlético Madrid has opened talks with Tottenham over a possible raid for midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Hojbjerg is a firm target for Atletico boss Diego Simeone who has instructed his recruitment staff to explore a move for the Danish international.
HH says: Hojbjeeg has been an excellent addition since arriving from Southampton, but severely limited to a large extent, given the paucity of midfield options surrounding him. Some fans look at the Dane and simply see a player that is neither one thing nor another. Personally, it might be easier just to move Pierre-Emile on and start with a set of fresh faces. For example, it would be great if Ange could get a tune out of Bissouma, who impressed us all at Brighton but appeared to struggle to get game time under Antoni Conte.
At 27, now might be the time to leave N17 in search of silverware.
