Tottenham Hotspur reportedly sending last offer to Atalanta for Cristian Romero

August has arrived, and Tottenham Hotspur has yet to land the marquee defender who will anchor their backline. The London-based club is still in talks with Atalanta BC in hopes of landing Cristian Romero. 

However, negotiations haven’t gone as planned despite agreeing to personal terms with the player; Tottenham and Atalanta can’t seem to find common ground on a transfer fee for the 23-year-old.

According to Italian football journalist Marco Conterio, the Premier League side is poised to make one last proposal before switching their attention elsewhere since the English club wants to add two defenders this summer. 

The report states that the offer will be £43million plus add-ons which could take the deal up to £50-million. Should the Serie A club accept this proposal from Tottenham, Romero would become the club’s second most expensive signing in history, behind Tanguy Ndombele.

It will be interesting to see whether Atalanta decides to take this offer or not blink and leave the negotiating table. Nonetheless, the Italian side is talking with other players such as

This report appears to be non-contemporaneous. Numerous outlets in Argentina and Italy have already reported this offer as having been made and accepted by Atalanta. It also has been reported that a deal for a further replacement for Atalanta, Demiral from Juventus, has now been put in place and that there is nothing left between Spurs and Atalanta other than to agree the payment schedule and sign the contract.
