Tottenham Have Regularly Scouted 27-Goal, 19 Assist Striker This Season | report

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham scouts have had regular eyes on Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this season, according to The Sunday Times.

The report understands that Spurs have sent representatives to watch the 22-year-old “several times” during his 27-goal campaign for the Bhoys. Edouard has also supplied 19 assists in 47 appearances, so he appears to have more to his game than being a bully in a poor league.

Back up and competition for Harry Kane has been a problem at Spurs since records began, and that was highlighted this week by quotes from the agent of one of the forwards who has been tipped for that role.

Victor Osimhen’s representative Ariyo Igbayilola told a Nigerian newspaper that the Lille striker would only join Spurs if Kane were to leave because he’d be wary of a lack of first-team chances, (via talkSPORT).

You’d expect that Edouard may be more persuadable as the jump in wages and quality to Spurs is bigger from Celtic than it is from Lille.

Edouard certainly has an impressive goalscoring record and at 6ft 2in (1.88 m) would fulfill the target man criteria Jose Mourinho is looking for.

Apparently £25m would be enough for Celtic, and he would know he will play every game when Harry goes down injured half way through the season.

He’s not coming to sit on the bench and play League Cup games, he’s too good for that. He is the real deal and has a very good team of advisers who have plotted his rise from French football to one of the big teams in one of the big European Leagues. Celtic are a staging post on that route, just like Van Dijk who was written off for playing in “a poor league”. He worked out okay. He’ll be be £30 to £40 million even in the present circumstances and Levy won’t pay that for a bench warmer. PSG have just made Mauro Icardi’s loan from Inter permanent. This is interesting because pre Covid the price for a permanent deal was £70 million and PSG have paid £54 million, some sources say the figure was £52 and part of the deal is made up of add ons. That looks like a discount of around twenty five per cent, and paid by a club who could easily pay £70 million. This shows that it’s a buyers market, Inter were happy to take a discount.
