Tottenham face serious competition from Man Utd in race to sign goal machine

By Bruce Grove -

Manchester United is prepared to scupper Tottenham’s bid to sign Alassane Plea, reports ESPN.

The Frenchman has been a long-term target for Spurs and he has continued to develop his career as a decent striker.

He currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach in the German league, and he has already scored eight league goals and provided seven assists for the German side this season.

He has been on the radar of several top European sides and Spurs are now back in for his signature.

The Lilywhites are looking for a good backup striker to Harry Kane as Jose Mourinho wants to avoid the situation that they found themselves in this season when they struggled following the loss of Kane to injury.

A number of strikers have been linked with a move to the Tottenham Stadium and Plea is one of them.

However, the report from ESPN claims that Manchester United have plans to beat Spurs to the signature of the striker.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new striker and they have made Lyon’s Moussa Dembele their first choice claims the same report.

However, because of coronavirus, they might struggle to meet Lyon’s asking price for Dembele and they may turn to Plea.

Plea would reportedly cost just £25 million, which isn’t too much for most top English teams to pay.

Goal machine? He’s a 1 in 3 player, but I guess the headline ‘Spurs in for respectable goal scorer’ hardly gets the masses excited. We do need a player though who does know where the goal is. We have a genuine ‘goal machine’ in Kane (for how much longer though?) and everyone in the media reckons no one else would sign for us. We know though, the problem is Kane needs rest, whether he plays 60 minutes and then he’s subbed or he has to be benched, not because he’s rubbish, but because he needs resting. Jesus and Aguero do this, so can Kane and (add player name). The irony is, if we sell Kane, we will need to sign two strikers as replacements.

What is the point of linking us with any player who is on a hot streak as a back up for Kane?Anybody who is currently playing every week in a top league, scoring goals and providing assists is not going to come to Spurs to sit on the bench for 90% of the season. And on less money I suspect.
I feel the best option is a young striker who has shown he can score, possibly from the Championship who could play alongside Kane or in his place. This would suit Levy as he wouldn’t be too expensive and if he really comes good would have a great sell on value.
We have to accept the fact that with ENIC in charge we will not be going after top players so we will not compete with other top sides on the financial front.

The only thing long term about Spurs under ENIC is the lack of trophies… one League Cup every decade or so will not change this.

So if any of these boring twerps start getting excited if Jose wins us the League Cup in the near future, I suggest they learn about the club’s history…

Tottenham’s bid to sign Plea. What bid? Did I miss something? How much did we bid for Mr Plea?
