Tottenham fighting Liverpool for the signature of Bundesliga defender

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has been linked with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach defender, Matthias Ginter.

The German has just over a year left on his current deal at the German side and looks set for a new challenge.

Tottenham has struggled at the back this season and it is one of the reasons why they are outside the Champions League places.

The Lilywhites have been looking for a good defender for some time now and were forced to settle for Joe Rodon in the summer.

The Welshman has hardly made them better at the back and that means they will look to sign a defender again when the transfer window reopens.

Bild says Monchengladbach is struggling to get Ginter to extend his current deal and the defender is keeping his options open ahead of a potential move away in the summer.

The report says the German side will not allow him to play for them at the start of next season if he doesn’t sign a new contract and they want £30m for his signature.

That fee is a lot for a player who would be out of contract at the end of next season, but Spurs can negotiate it down.

They will face competition from Liverpool who have lost their best defenders to injury for much of this season.

Me neither mate, but I do keep an eye on the top 5 leagues. Ginter has been consistently good for a while. Monchengladbach have got a very decent squad.

Really? You’ve not heard of him? 27, consistent defender. World Cup and German Cup winner.
