Tottenham falling behind Premier League outfit in race to sign international defender

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham might miss out on the signing of USA international, Weston McKennie as ESPN claims that a Premier League rival is leading the race for the American.

McKennie has emerged as a transfer target for Spurs and some other Premier League sides this summer after yet another fine season for Schalke 04.

He missed their latest friendly game in preparation for the new season through injury but the report claims that Southampton is continuing negotiations over his transfer.

The Saints have been one of the busiest teams in this transfer market and they look set to make the American one of their summer recruits.

Tottenham has also been monitoring him according to the report, however, the Lilywhites will have to act fast on their interest or they will lose him to their rivals.

Jose Mourinho will want to add as many top players as he can to his team this summer after managing to get them into the Europa League positions.

They will be contesting for four trophies in the coming season and they will need squad depth.

They have already landed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton and McKennie who made 28 league appearances and scored 3 times for Schalke 04 last season might follow the Dane into Mourinho’s team.

Unless the Saints beat them to the punch.
