Totenham tipped to revive their interest in Premier League target

By Bruce Grove -

Kevin Phillips has tipped Jose Mourinho to return for Antonio Rudiger in the next transfer window.

The German defender has fallen out of favour at Chelsea since the arrival of Thiago Silva.

He wanted to leave the club before the international transfer deadline day, but Chelsea blocked his move away from the club.

He is expected to ask to leave the club in the January transfer window if things don’t change because he wants to play in the Euros.

Mourinho has wanted a new centre-back all summer and reports claim that he spoke with Rudiger who wanted to join his Tottenham side (The Metro).

The Lilywhites ultimately failed to land a new centre-back before the transfer window closed and Phillips believes that they will look to sign one in the next transfer window, and it might just be Rudiger.

When asked by Football Insider whether a move could still happen in the winter window, Phillips said:

“They have made some fantastic signings this summer but I think Mourinho will dive into the market in January so the Rudiger deal could happen then.”

“If you look at the acquisitions Tottenham have made this summer, they have been very good.

“I honestly think Spurs will be challenging in an around that top four and possibly higher. It could be one of those bizarre seasons where anything could happen. It has certainly been the case so far.”

Rudiger played for Germany in the recent international games, but he knows that he will have to play more to keep that place on the national team.
