Premier League rival looking to hijack Tottenham’s bid for Championship star

By Bruce Grove -

The Sun claims that Leicester City is looking to beat Tottenham to the signature of Joe Rodon.

Rodon emerged as a target for Spurs during the close of this transfer window after it became apparent that they would not be able to sign Milan Skriniar.

The Welsh defender who played for his national team against England last week is keen to make the step up to the Premier League.

However, the report claims that Brendan Rodgers isn’t looking to sign him soon and that the former Liverpool manager will prefer a January move for the 22-year-old.

This is because he will want to allow Wesley Fofana, whom he has just signed from Saint Etienne, to settle at the club first before he lands another centre back.

Spurs are still in talks to sign Rodon despite having an initial bid of around £7 million plus extras for his signature rejected.

The welsh side is looking for a fee that is closer to £20m and they think they can get that considering that Everton just signed Ben Godfrey from Norwich City for a similar figure.

Spurs have until the 16th of this month to complete the transfer and it will be interesting to see if Leicester beats them to Rodon’s signing.

I’m not convinced on this tbh. It’s always a risk delving down a league to bring in players as important as a CB. We should have paid and got Skriniar and solved our problems in one swoop.
How many cheap CB’s has Levy bought in that have flopped? I can think of Chiriches, Fazio and Foyth without any effort. For the cost of those 3 gherkins we could have had somebody proven.

Hijacking Spurs deals never surprises me. Instead of faffing about simply get on with it and clinch the deal quickly, no messing, pronto!!
