Thomas Tuchel won’t implement Antonio Conte’s system to help Romelu Lukaku

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is one of the few managers to get the most out of Romelu Lukaku. The 28-year-old scored 64 goals in 95 appearances for Inter Milan as the two helped the club win the Serie A title in 2021.

However, Lukaku’s move to Chelsea isn’t going as he and the club had hoped for when they spent £97.5-million this past summer. Furthermore, the striker was critical of manager Thomas Tuchel for how he’s utilizing him in contrast to Conte.

Ahead of the Tottenham-Chelsea EFL semifinal matchup, Tuchel spoke to the media, where Football.London relayed his comments regarding taking some of Conte’s tactics and implementing them into his style to suit Lukaku better.

“We cannot just play like Inter played and hope that will bring the best out of Romelu,” Tuchel said. “That was a fantastic season because Antonio Conte is a fantastic coach. That system he played at Inter did not only suit Romelu and the second striker Lautaro Martinez, it fits the whole squad.”

“I put my players in positions where they are confident they can help the team. This is what Antonio Conte does in every league he works, at an outstanding level. I have nothing but full respect. He is such an emotional and influential coach at the sideline. I really love to watch his team play. It will be a pure pleasure to play against him.”

Reports surfaced that Lukaku could force his way to Tottenham and reunite with Conte. However, it seems as though the striker has made amends with the German manager and Chelsea as they now have their sights set on Spurs.
