“This season he’s shown why such a big price tag was behind his name” Ferdinand full of praise for Spurs man

By Bruce Grove -

After watching him score a goal and impress in Tottenham’s game against Wolves, Rio Ferdinand is full of praise for the former Lyon star.

The Frenchman joined Spurs at the start of last season after they failed to win the Champions League.

His heavy price tag of £55.45 million meant that a lot was expected of him when he joined the club.

But he struggled in his first campaign and he was even ousted from the team by Jose Mourinho towards the end of the season.

He has won his place back with some fine performances in midfield this season and Ferdinand thinks that his current form shows why Spurs spent that much money to land him.

Ferdinand states that Ndombele is such a delight to watch and praised him for his ability to get out of trouble every time he is surrounded by opposition players.

Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, he said: “This season he’s shown why such a big price tag was behind his name.

“His feet are beautiful, a playground footballer. The ball comes into him, one or two players marking him, he doesn’t care, a little shimmy, he gets out of trouble all the time.”

To be fair he played a full 90 a mere 3 months ago

Moussa used his strength above all else for ball retention and dribbling. Tanguy uses body-fakes above all else, moving his torso before the ball, juking a defender off balance then going by them. Moussa would just shrug them off and power through. Tanguy’s nowhere near as strong. Different styles, playing in different roles/positions. Bear in mind, everyone in our squad who was asked said the Moussa was THE best player at the club, period.

Looking marginally overweight it’s pretty pathetic that Ndombele is not fully match fit now!!

I stand to be corrected but just can’t see it happening!

The transfer fee is only mentioned because it’s OUR record signing – if signed by Chelsea (or Liverpool, Man City, ManU), he wouldn’t even be seen as particularly expensive.

He’s a different player to Mousa but there are similarities in the way they almost never lose the ball, even in very difficult situations. If fully fit (and that’s a big IF), he will contribute more goals and assists than Mousa did.

A playground footballer as Ferdinand described him is right. I want a footballer who can last 90 minutes consistently and provide goals and chances for the team.

Surprised you feel that he is a different type of player to Moussa when both are adopting a similar role which in Moussas case was picking up the ball from deep/midfield, feeding others and running at the heart of the opponents defence?

A very different type of player to Moussa. I just wish he’d stop subbing him on the hour mark to protect fragile leads. Kills our threat.

Yet to be convinced. Hence the jury is out.
Is he better than Moussa Dembele. Probably not!

Yes, the real deal is Tanguy, that transfer fee is going to look very reasonable in a few years.
