The Athletic reports that Antonio Rudiger decided against moving from Chelsea to Tottenham late in the transfer window because he feared a backlash from the club’s fans.
The German defender has struggled to play for Chelsea this season following the arrival of Thiago Silva.
Jose Mourinho has been in need of a new defender for much of the transfer window and he wanted the former AS Roma man.
Rudiger reportedly held talks with the Portuguese manager and it was positive, however, he decided at the last minute not to join Spurs because he feared a fall out from fans if he leaves them to join a rival.
Rudiger will not have been a popular choice for Tottenham’s fans whom he has a bad history with and maybe some fans are happy that he never joined them.
Spurs are still looking for a new centre back after failing to land Milan Skriniar despite a long pursuit of the Inter Milan man.
They are now reportedly trying to complete a move for Swansea man, Joe Rodon.
The European window has closed, English teams have until October 16th to still do business domestically with lower league clubs and Spurs will hope to wrap up his signing before that time elapses.
My understanding was that that Russian bloke refuses to do business with us any way. I just viewed the story as Mourinho mischief making plus he’s not very good, CCV is on the same level.
He should.
Bale. Davies. Tell your fellow country to push for Tottenham. Order him to. It’s for the best for him. Get on the blower and do it now Please. Use your weight.
I wonder if Chris Hughton will convince Rose to join him at Forest.
It would have been the worst signing in history for us. Everyone I know is relieved he is stuck wasting away where he belongs. Apart from that is my cousin who supports Chelsea. He was ecstatic at the thought of offloading him.
