Terrible week but Jose can still save Tottenham’s season and his job

By Bruce Grove -

It has been a difficult day, one cannot go on social media, Youtube or a news app without Tottenham being ridiculed and bantered left right and centre.

However, the season is not over and there is still much to play for despite how grim things look today.

It is wrong to dismiss Tottenham out of hand ahead of the Carabao Cup and they are not that far away from a top-four spot.

Of course, Man City are hot favourites to win yet another Carabao Cup but in all fairness, they would be hot favourites against any team in England right now.

City are beatable, we have beaten them this season and last, Man Utd beat them just recently and anything can happen in Cup games. Is it unlikely Spurs will win? Yes, but not impossible.

The same applies to the race for a top-four spot. Right now, Spurs are six points behind fourth placed Chelsea with a game in hand and comparable goal difference. Win that game in hand and that puts the Blues well within reach.

It is really easy to be negative right now but the one thing about Mourinho’s Tottenham is that while they can go five or six games without a win, they can also win five or six on the trot, you never know what to expect.

All that said, if Jose does fail to win the Carabao Cup and miss out on a top-four spot, then you have to think that his job is in serious jeopardy, hard to see Daniel Levy handing him any transfer funds in the summer in the event that Spurs’ season ends in failure.

Yes, it has been a terrible week for Mourinho, the team and the fans, however, it can still be salvaged and the chances are that it needs to be or Spurs will be on the lookout for a new manager come the summer.

Interesting site that. Our net spend since the start of the Prem is ………. wait for it ………. £08.7 mil. Lesta’s is a minus number.

Villa, during the past 5 years have net spent more than double Tottenham’s net spend as a per year average, so technically they could be favourites.

I agree on sissoko, but someone needs to help PEH out.

You can’t have Tanguy or gio as they aren’t defensive enough. You need a solid base to let the forward players play.

We need to play on the front foot on Sunday otherwise we will be turned over again

When Bergwijn played, he at least showed heart, running all over the pitch and helping out defensively, so he’s not a bad pick.

I wouldn’t play Sissoko anymore. I’ve had enough. For a supposed leader, I don’t see him inspiring anyone with his clumsiness and inability to stop dangerous attacks. Watching him embark on a driving run to lay off the ball to a player four feet from him fills me with a sense of helplessness comparable to when my teacher made me attend a Kafka play.

We may as well throw caution to the wind and see where we end up. All out attack from here on in I say.

He doesnt, i don’t think he is any good. At the moment who else would we play Dele, Bale? I dunno anymore

No one plays well, no one plays with heart, no one seems to be bothered

We used to have a team, players clearly don’t play for the manager, they all feel sorry for themselves, sadly it’s the fans who are left feeling angry and sorry.

It’s an embarrassment, so far as i hate watching us and i am getting close to watching the inane dogsh!t that the Missus is desperate for me to watch.

Great post James. It should be printed and put up in the dressing Room. At Anfield they have the ” This Is Anfield “, sign for all to see on their way to the Pitch. THFC should have this.

can someone with better researching skills than myself, come up with a figure for our nett spend on players during enic and Daniel Levy’s tenure.
I think that will explain our disgraceful lack of silverware during that period.

Wasted perhaps but Im not sure he has the energy levels to play further foward..so I reckon even if hes somewhat wasted there he’d be better than Sissoko, Winks, Alli plus if its not working out you can move him further forward… having said all of that Lo noso will start… amazes me how players at that level cant make simple passes with both feet.

It will be interesting to see who doesn’t make the squad.

4th spot may not be good enough if Liverpool or Chelsea win Champions league and Arsenal win Europa league. It would be just Spurs luck to miraculously snatch 4th only to lose out…….again!

Tanguy is wasted playing so deep and he isn’t a defensive player

Bruce, I can take getting beaten, we’re well used to it. But what I can’t take is arrogance by a group of losers when it is undeserved.

A sense of entitlement when it hasn’t been earned with sweat and honest effort.

A disgusting lack of pride in that famous shirt, an absence of the barest level of professionalism that would see anyone else sacked on the spot.

A total lack of any fear of consequences for such ineptitude, loss of wages, loss of place long term.

The active and obvious undermining of, love him or hate him, one of the best managers ever.

Just when you thought this group of neer do wells couldn’t stoop any lower, against Arsenal, they find a new way to disgrace themselves.

But I’d imagine disgrace is not an emotion they will feel, no too used to cheating fans, manager and employer such honest feelings are beyond them.

Yep, he should definitely be captain, clearly one of the only leaders we have.

Mourinho won’t play the kids, he doesn’t do that. It wouldn’t be right to expect them to do anything, especially if the top players can’t muster the effort. Frankly its so difficult to fathom a starting eleven, but i would go for.

I would play Tangana right back with Regi left. Rodon and Toby centre half.

PEH, Sissoko, Gio, Moura, Bergwijn, and Kane

I would definitely start Rodon, Tanganga & Scarlett? I’d even start Vinicius… Lamela is banned this weekend so I would probably play Hoyberg & Tanguy centre, Scarlett, Kane, Moura & Vinny up front… Winks & aurier wouldnt make the squad.

Also starting against Villa I would immediately hand over the captains armband to the Dane!

As I have stated earlier David. Bring in People who want to play. Not the Diers , Winks and Sissokos who look as if The Club owes them something .

Hence time to drop big name reputations and play the youngsters. That ought ruffle a few feathers!

It won’t be now

There is no point now, with a cup final and the outside chance of europa for next season.

Villa will be fresher, they have good attacking players and if we start slowly and concede possession we are going to struggle yet again.

I genuinely look at the fixtures and struggle to find 3 points if the players don’t change their attitude and the manager doesnt up his game.

This is a collective mess, but without togetherness and spirit we ain’t getting out of this.

Emphasis being on shaking things up big time not rotating the same old dross week in week out. Time to act by freshening things up now.

Whilst the players might not be trusted

The bigger question is, do the players trust the manager, if they don’t then there is no hope.

He hasnt helped himself by making some bad team selections, by telling everyone that the players arent listening to him and it would seem his ability to change momentum in our favour in game is not there.

It doesnt bode well

Last nights humiliation was a cathartic moment witnessing the beginning of the end of Mourninho’s divisive reign. Barring the unexpected, preaching to the realists are we likely to win the League Cup final and secure a top 4 spot probably not? Either way once a manager has lost the dressing room amidst disharmony and recriminations amongst the players a parting of the ways looks inevitable. It’s simply a case of now or at the end of the season!

just the cup final is on – top 4 is miracle land, with so many in the race and so many ahead we could only realistically drop another 2pts to stand a chance and even then we might need Leicester to collapse

if we were playing at all consistently there’s be a modicum of hope in the league but this squad can’t be trusted
