Telegraph Analysis: 5 Poch Replacements + 2 Contrasting Profiles

By Joe Fish -

Jose Mourinho and Gareth Southgate are among the managers being considered by Tottenham Hotspur should we sack Mauricio Pochettino.

That is according to The Telegraph whose top football writer Matt Law understands that Poch could be sacked if we lose to West Ham United after the international break, with the club doubting he can salvage the season.

Spurs are 14th in the Premier League table, 11 points adrift of the top four, have collected 25 points from their last 24 top-flight matches across this and last season, and have not won an away league match since January.

One of the things reportedly deterring chairman Daniel Levy from sacking Pochettino is the lack of suitable interim on the club’s staff, meaning that any replacement for the Argentine would need to be available immediately.

That almost certainly rules out Southgate who has a World Cup on the horizon with England next summer, and Julian Nagelsmann of RB Leipzig, who are challenging Bayern Munich at the top of the Bungesliga.

You feel that Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe could be tempted mid-season but The Telegraph believes that all three of those managers of interest would be more realistic targets for Spurs if Poch stayed until the end of the campaign.

That trio of young managers with philosophies of exciting, attacking football suggests we are looking at the same profile of manager that we were when we snared the Argentine from Southampton six years ago.

But the other two names on The Telegraph’s shortlist Mourinho and Massimiliano Allegri – would represent an entirely different approach – experienced and pragmatic bosses with a pedigree of winning trophies.

Both are out of work, Mourinho since being sacked by Manchester United in February, and Allegri since leaving Juventus in May, so would be available straight away and would not cost the club anything in compensation.

Which way will we go? It could all depend on that West Ham game, and whether Levy is prepared to pay out Poch’s contract. More on that below…

More fans want to go watch their team. What part of that don’t you understand.

All these alleged names are like the alleged transfers we’ve had during ENICS tenure. Has Moutinho signed yet ?

Eddie Howe…. bit like Gerry Francis. Little fish big pond. Won’t work

Mourinho…. Past it.

Southgate…. Not a winner despite being able to pick the so called best players the country has to offer.

Allegri & Nagelsmann ….. zero PL experience

Specifically though. What right minded self respecting human being would want to work for Levy and ENIC. Asked to do the almost impossible with one hand tied behind your back.

It’s probably why Eddie Howe would take it. Not to enhance his career. But to simply say he’s managed (briefly) a so called big club.

The lack of investment in the team is because of the stadium. The crippling debt is because of the stadium.. Levy prioritised the stadium over the team. Theres no shortage of money at all the prem clubs now because of tv rights, not gate reciepts.. If kane goes soon it will be extremely sad.. Levy will have a price on his head too

I also predict Harry Kane will be off in the summer, most likely abroad, he can’t put up with his brand being tarnished by this sh#t show.

Difference is there seems to be no shortage of money at Everton. City built a new stadium and have done alright. Stadiums in themselves aren’t the problem, it’s lack of investment in the team that’s the problem.

It’ll cost a lot more than money. The reputational damage to Spurs will be big. Any new manager working under the same financial restrictions is beaten even before he starts, though there will be no shortage of candidates. Poch’s plight has shown the limitations of “Levyball”. Those missed windows are looming larger and larger in all this mess. At a guess Spurs need to spend £300 million to replace the wantaway brigade and to add extra quality into a very meagre squad. I can’t see that money being spent, plus every club in the world knows we are desperate, desperation is not a good negotiating strategy. Get out of that Mr Chairman, Poch will have the last laugh, that I guarantee.

96% in favour of new stadium and “legacy project” at Everton.

More lambs to the slaughter, poor fools. Another great English club about to be seduced and sold down the river. Don’t do it Everton it’s all a con.
Leipzig are only challenging cos they are doping.
