Spurs star explains why he isn’t hitting the panic button despite the recent form from Arsenal

By Eddie Razo -

Last week, Tottenham Hotspur had the ability to create some space between themselves and Arsenal for fourth place. Their north London rivals were coming off a loss to Southampton, so all Spurs needed to do was get a win over Brighton & Hove Albion, which they failed to do, losing 1-0.

A few days have gone by and Arsenal has picked up wins over Chelsea and Manchester United while Tottenham drew 0-0 against Brentford. As a result, the Gunners move back into fourth place with a two-point buffer on Spurs.

Despite the recent form by Arsenal, central defender Eric Dier isn’t ready to begin hitting the panic button after seeing their rivals pick up six points in their last two fixtures. At the same time, Tottenham has only secured one point.

“No, we know what’s at stake,” Dier said, whose words were relayed by Football.London. “I said last week, in three games, a lot can change. We’ve got to focus on ourselves, put the blinkers on and try to win all our games. Today’s a hiccup, but we’ve got no time to feel sorry for ourselves.”

“It’s still in our hands because we still have to play them. But there’s a lot of football before that. We’ve just got to figure out why we’ve performed the way we have and try to change that.”

Spurs will be welcoming Leicester City to north London, and it’s a fixture that manager Antonio Conte’s squad needs to win, considering their next opponent will be Liverpool. Meanwhile, Arsenal will have a London Derby against West Ham United and welcome Leeds United the following week.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham are on a collision course to possibly decide fourth place on May 12th in the latest edition of the North London Derby.

More importantly we are going to beat Arsenal and Arsenal are going to beat us.

Dier isn’t hitting the panic button because he will have to turn round to press it and an opposition player will beat him to it.

Toby was great in his prime when we bought him. He was definitely in decline at 32 and 33 though. Some players are done early like Rooney. Toby is now in the Qatar league which is a huge drop in the football league rankings. He’s gone from our league which is ranked number 1 in the world, to Qatar which isn’t even ranked in the top 33. Serie B, Ligue 2, the Greek league and our football league division 2 and Scunthorpe are ranked higher. I thought he had more in him but he must be done because he’s there. Only an average wage of about 7k a week.

West Ham will roll over for the GOONS make no mistake. If Spam win the Europa they are in CL along with The GOONS and of course Chelski. Food for Thought.

Yep it’s fallen well for arse with Chelsea being off form and weakened for that game by Tuchel, and Utd in freefall.

He’s used to having the players to do it in the past. Now he’s stumped and just keeps on doing the same thing over hoping it’ll come good. No manager can sort out this dysfunctional lot, why not try some of the youngsters?

With the second leg the following Thursday, so we know where their focus will be.

I don’t mind saying I’m disappointed in Ledders not telling it the way it is, but he appears to be more of a Levy man than a Spurs man.

The backline is being coached to play these passes as are the midfielders, every ball is a safe pass with no risk involved , but it is meaningless possession that offers nothing productive.
I agree about Dier in every way and more, but Davies hits decent passes, watch again, but the problem remains that when a team sits behind the ball we don’t know what to do and Conte has not addressed this which is incredible.

I suppose considering our inconsistencies and our Man City results it’s not impossible. Thinking their high line and the pace of Son and Kane’s vision in those situations. Lets hope.

I think both the current players and the previous ones, like King, Mabbutt etc. are all given scripts full of bullshine to read out to the media, like telephone sales people are given to do telesales. Only that can explain the bland drivel supporting the club and full of positivity that ignores the facts that issues forth from their lips. Levy and the PR dept have them all on a very tight leash. Levy is the Putin of the footballing world.

I am sick to death hearing this waste of space talk about “ bouncing back” “ looking ahead” “ learning from this result” etc. There is no way he should still be anywhere near this club let alone the first team squad. How the hell can we keep him and let Toby go. Toby would have been an excellent pairing with Romero and he was one of the best long range passers in the squad. Watching Dier lose his man at dead balls, defend by turning away from his man and hitting long balls that end up losing us possession time and time again makes me despair. He cannot carry the ball forward. The only thing he does is slow the tempo of the team down by playing these meaningless backwards and sideways passes across the back line. Dier to Romero back to Dier then across to Davies who advances a few paces then stops and passes back to Dier. By this time the opposition have got back all behind the ball, had a chat about what they did at the weekend and what their holiday plans are. It is turgid and embarrassing watching us play at times and the problems usually arise from Dier, Davies and our non existent wingbacks. Thats four men down before we have kicked a ball. I couldn’t care less if Dier is a good trainer he is not an elite footballer.

The two games next for the arse and us could be determined by how WH and Leicester do in the first leg of their SFs this week and who they will rest.Plus WH could be without any recognised CBs.

To be fair Arsenal have done well to get 6 points from the 2 games that we hoped they might wobble in.

West Ham away will not be a walk in the park for them, but they should batter Leeds at home.

We are unlikely to win at Anfield and so absolutely must get 3 points against Leicester at home next weekend if we’re to make the NLD interesting.

If we win all our games it’s ours, even if Arsenal win all their games.

Facts are that despite a very disappointing draw AND performance against Brentford , things are still very much in our hands . As difficult as it maybe , 5 wins absolutely guarantees 4th spot , Arsenal also needing 4 wins with a possible draw against us getting them the CL spot.
So not all doom and gloom . I have always felt that if we make the NL derby and everything is still ‘up for grabs ‘ , we will play them and we will beat them , we are [ at our best ] a better team than them.
We must show our support right here , right now , so much rides on this . Not least our rivalry with Arsenal , redemption time if we can steal this , history will show that we came together as one and in a time of great intensity we prevailed .
This is no pipe dream , it is reality . ALL IS NOT LOST …. C O Y S !!

  1. So it’s not actually in out hands is it Eric. That means it is ours to lose well if Arsenal win all their games they finish 4th you thick twot.
  2. You have to figure out the reason why after 2 pathetic performances. I see you didnt pick up the header that rattled the crossbar. Brentford will be kicking themselves they dropped 2 points.

You have the sequence wrong. Whilst it is true that Spurs had the possibility to create further space between themselves and Arsenal last weekend, Spurs played Brighton before Arsenal played Southampton. So Arsenal were not “coming off a loss to Southampton”, they lost that game after our defeat against Brighton.
