Spurs outcast told to reject the only team that has come in for him

By Bruce Grove -

Darren Bent has told Danny Rose to reject a move to Middlesbrough and target joining a top-end Championship team like Brentford or Bournemouth instead.

Rose has been frozen out at Spurs, and unless he gets a local team to play for this season before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, the left-back will not play football this campaign.

Middlesbrough emerged as an option for him a few days ago and the Championship side is the only team that looks willing to take a chance on him at the moment.

While he considers their offer, Bent thinks he will be making the wrong decision to join a Boro side that isn’t challenging for a return to the Premier League.

He instead suggested that Rose should consider a move to a top Championship team like Brentford or Bournemouth.

He reckons that Rose will not want to be seen as a Championship player, which is a tag he will get if he moves to Boro and gets stuck in the club’s Championship struggles.

Bent told Football Insider: “When you drop down to the Championship to get game time that’s all well and good and I totally understand that.

“What you don’t want to do is go down to the Championship to get game time and you get stuck at a team that’s not doing very well because you’re going to start getting labelled as a Championship player.

“You’ve dropped down, you’ve not really made a difference and then you have to fight tooth and nail to get an opportunity back in the Premier League.

“For Danny Rose, he needs to be playing games, yes, but it’s got to be the right club in the right situation.

“Middlesbrough are a big club but at the same time, I wouldn’t say they’re pulling up any trees at the minute.

“I look at the situation and if it’s a top-end, like a Bournemouth or a Brentford, you’d go ‘OK, I can see that’. The top-end of the Championship would be OK.

“I’m not quite sure Middlesbrough would be the right fit but it comes down also to how desperate he is to play football. Is he desperate?”

Couldn’t put it better myself. Walker leaves, Danny doesn’t = angry, mouthy Danny. It’s sad. If he’d just accepted it and got his head down and worked hard, he might have got his big move. Instead he set about bad-mouthing his own club to settle a score. That’s never a strategy that’s going to end well.

It seems that Danny’s issues stem from when he was denied his dream move to a ‘bigger’ club for megabucks a la Kyle Walker, that never actually arrived, by Tottenham. He has allowed this injustice to fester to his detriment and made him toxic, resulting in a series of ill-advised media tell-alls that only made the situation worse. I genuinely hope that he can get his life and professional career back on track away from Spurs. He has been one of our longest serving players and deserves to be respected for that.

Probably true. But he also needed to put his money where his mouth is rather than his mouth where the money was.

I’m sure both Levy and Mourinho are very impressed with Bent putting obstructive ideas into Rose’s head,This is the man who I read yesterday thinks Rice would be an upgrade on Kante at Chelsea.I think that says enough.
Why he is so against Boro I don’t know, but after only four matches they are in the top half of the Championship. And in Warnock they have a manager who knows all about promotion to the PL.
Rose needs to be realistic and show he will kick on with the rest of what’s left of his career.Nobody else is in for him and the only people who will lose in this situation are Rose who will stagnate with no playing time and Levy who will take a hit on his 70K/week salary.
As suggested below cancel his contract by mutual agreement, but do it before tomorrow evening.Levy would only be losing about 2M.

Unfortunately, as everybody (except Danny, apparently) knows, Danny’s worst enemy is Danny.
Everyone knows he’s a great left-back with plenty more in the tank. They can all see he’s talented. But nobody seems remotely interested. “Why’s that?” Danny wonders, baffled, hard done by, and growing ever-more annoyed and angry with the world and everyone in it. Well, um… exactly that.
I believe the best option for all parties is to cancel his contract by mutual consent in January, so he might have a chance of somebody willing to take him on a free and we get his wages off the books.
I wish him well.
