Spurs given major boost in £40m transfer pursuit of Conte favourite

By Mark Brus -

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte reportedly looks to have been given a boost in pursuit of the potential transfer of Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij.

The 29-year-old has long been a top performer in Serie A, both for current club Inter and for former side Lazio, and it would be interesting to see what he could do in the Premier League.

According to Football Insider, it sounds like the £40m-rated De Vrij himself is also up for that challenge, as he’s said to have told friends he’d be interested in following his old manager Conte to Spurs.

De Vrij is highly rated by Conte, according to the report, so it perhaps makes sense that these links seem to be strengthening ahead of the January transfer window, when the Italian tactician is surely going to be eager to make changes to this struggling squad he inherited from Nuno Espirito Santo.

Conte and De Vrij will know each other well from their successful time together at the San Siro, and it could be ideal to now get them working together again in north London.

Lol. “He’s said to have told friends”. Makes me laugh everytime. All these players can’t have very trustworthy friends if they all run to the press leaking their private matters.. Good defender though. Aggressive like Romero.
