Spurs came ‘close’ to selling Tottenham fan favourite for just €5m in January – player refused to move

Tottenham Hotspur’s Brazilian forward Lucas Moura was the subject of interest from several clubs during the January transfer window.

According to Foot Mercato, Qatari club Al-Saad were ‘close’ to signing the player, with Spurs willing to sell him for €5million. But despite the lucrative offer from Al-Saad, Moura ultimately refused to join the club.

Other clubs such as Everton, Southampton, and Crystal Palace were also eyeing a move for the forward as reported by The Sun.

Moura joined Tottenham in 2017 from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of around €28 million. In his 213 appearances for the North London club, he has scored 38 goals and provided 27 assists. That is 65 goal contributions in 213 appearances.

Moura was an integral player for Spurs during the reign of former manager Mauricio Pochettino, and played a key role in their run to the final of the Champions League in the 2018-19 season, where they eventually finished runners-up to Liverpool.

His pace, dribbling skills and attacking prowess made him a fan favorite at the club, and his contribution to the team’s success cannot be understated.

This season, however, has been hampered by injuries for Moura, but he made a successful return from injury, scoring on his return in a 2-1 win over Arsenal U21s.

The fact that he was able to make an impact in the game despite being out of action for a while is a testament to his quality and determination as a player.

Despite interest from several clubs, it remains to be seen if Moura will leave Tottenham in the near future.
