Some fickle Tottenham fans already declaring that the“Bale Curse” is back

By Bruce Grove -

Gareth Bale made his second debut for Tottenham yesterday and it was expected to be a return to remember from the start.

However, while it is one to remember, it is hardly for the right reasons.

The Welshman was introduced in the game against West Ham yesterday afternoon when the Lilywhites were already 3-0.

They had raced into that lead before the 20th minute and they just needed to see out the game.

Bale was sent on to help Spurs punish the tiring Hammers, but it turned out to be something more negative.

With him on the pitch, Spurs conceded three late goals to end the match 3-3 and some Spurs fans think that the attacker has brought his curse back.

Bale went 24 games without winning as a player for Tottenham during his first stint and some fans worry that it might just be 23 more games to go before Tottenham can win again with him in the team.

The Sun stuck up a few Tweets from fickle Spurs fans with one Tweeting: “Bale’s Spurs curse is back again. Just 23 games to go and they can start winning again.”

Some of the other Tweets read:

“Bale curse all the way from Madrid”

“Looks like the curse of bale is back”

“The Bale curse in full effect”

“The Bale curse continues… 3-3 #TOTWHU”

Football fans really are the most reactionary group of people on the planet, if Spurs had held on those same fans would be saying that Bale will lead to Tottenham to the title.

Imagine what they would have said if he would have actually put his chance away.

The mind boggles sometimes.

I don’t often get angry about all this sh*t but it was a great piece of movement to get into position to shoot and I was surprised it didnt hit the target. I dont want to review the match so I will take the word of people that he was fouled.
He is just short of match fitness – how long since he last played a competitive game?
Give me strength to rise above these morons oh Lord.

As I will have to explain to my caravan owning Spammer neighbour when I see him next, “Sh*t happens”. He gleefully told me on Sunday that he put money on WHU to win 4 – 0. I just laughed and said it was the last he would see of his money. Probably watch the match on Spurs TV tomorrow if its still up.

Yes, he did, but it was very early in the build up.

That Palace penalty was a complete and utter joke and yes, far less contact than the West Ham defender on Bale. I think it wasn’t looked at because there was absolutely no protest from either Bale or Kane.

Yes, I completely agree. I think if Bale and Kane had vigorously protested then VAR would have looked at it and could have ruled it as a penalty. As you say, the defender who was at arm’s length, made absolutely no attempt to play the ball and blatantly just shoved him, as he appeared to be about to slot the ball into the back of the net.

Bale did lose possession cheaply for one of the goal build ups but I’m not blaming him for any of this — he’s only just come back

I’m not sure why it wasn’t looked at , palace got a pen in their game for far far less. I believe it was just the magnitude of the moment , everyone was looking at the headlines of him scoring the winner and were in shock when it went wide

I’m not excusing the complete collapse at all but I believe bale was fouled , the defender made zero attempt to play the ball and shoved him over

Yes, it was a foul and if Spurs had complained vociferously and VAR had looked at it, I think we might have got a penalty. He was blatantly pushed, at arms length, by the defender, right as he was about to slot the ball into the net.

Well, some Spurs fans are cretins, but then again we already know that. It’s the same with all clubs. It’s a product, unfortunately, of this tiresome social media age, where a certain percentage of emotionally incontinent, attention-seeking, narcissists, flap their gums unintelligently at the slightest provocation. The solution of course is just to ignore them.

Just for the record, in that one motion alone, Bale showed his class, but sadly was unable to crown his brief cameo with a magnificent goal. He was actually pushed by the West Ham defender, just as he was about to strike the ball into the net. Yes, clearly he is not match fit, but Bergwijn was tired and contributing little and as Bale was not at fault for any of the goals, no blame should be attached to his contribution.

Hopefully they were just joking

I mean it was the obvious joke to make

After watching the highlights a few times bale’s miss should have been a penalty imo
